Executive summary: French Chic Beauty is a great reminder that self-care and self-enjoyment can really improve one's life in many more ways than we realize. I've already bought a copy for another busy working mom whom I know who is in the same boat as I am. I am a commuting, working wife and mom of a child, 2 dogs, 2 hermit crabs, a lizard, and several fish. I dress up daily for work and always look presentable, but the finer details of my self-care have come in last compared to everyone else's needs. While I had heard of many of the tips in this book (but needed a reminder), I also learned a few new tricks, such as the importance of using a clothing brush to keep clothes looking clean and new and that a hand steamer can quickly improve the look of clothing. This book also reminded me that I can do quick, basic mani-pedis at home weekly rather than going to a salon. It's just a matter of working self-care into one's routine. I love that Blanchard's books are so short that I can read them in one sitting. I have the other book by Blanchard, on fashion (I found this one more helpful, but that one was good too). I am about to purchase the one on home-making. I am really enjoying this influence in my life.

This was exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a book or better still, a plan to inspire me to start taking better care of myself. This book was exactly what I was looking for. A doable plan to start taking care of me. It starts out with small easy steps for getting your head in the right frame of mind. Seriously, I am so excited to feel inspired and confident to begin. I am 67 years young and I feel “stoked”. Thank you so much for taking time to write this. I have never felt confident before, never good enough. But I am positive that I can change that now. Thank you ! XOXOX

Read this book in an hour. Reminded me of things I already knew about taking care of myself. Nice suggestions for a weekly beauty schedule.

Mediocre - not everything is anything you don't already know

The critiques are really not helpful. This is basically a pamphlet not a book. Most comments are as American as they are French.

I have read all the books in the series and I have thoroughly enjoyed all the knowledge I have acquired. This book is a wonderful addition to my collection. I have already tried out a lot of ideas presented in this book and I really like the results.

Good advice and smart. If you need help or are learning the basics of style this is a good book.

Folks, I am using a Microsoft Windows 7 Program on my Desktop so some of my writings spill over onto the Samsung Tab 4..and it seems that the named above Manual uses Google/Google Chrome ideas.both in the computer & the Galaxy Tab 4 & confuses me?I realize that I am not the most technically minded but sometimes I had expected a more simpler technique for help..Thanks howeverfor the for the follow- up you asked for..I must keep trying to use some of the ideas in the Manual....

This book is just what the title says user manual. It is a basic book, the information found within is very useful though. To me the author has taken the user manual and rewritten it so to be understood more clearly. It would be a book for a nontechnically person. This book covers the 7", 8" and 10.1" tablets. I gave the book only 4 stars as it is missing something important for a first time user. A labeled digram of the 7" & 8 " as well as one for the 10.1pointing out the buttons for each. Both the 7 and 8 inch table the power button is on the side as stated in the book, but the 10.1" tablet it is to the left of the Samsung label on top. This is where it would have been nice to have a picture pointing to each button, and just to mention the home button is that big one on the bottom. Other than that it very informative and it has a trouble shooting section as well as where to get more help.

In my opinion, this is somewhat a translation of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Tablet full manual. The reason that I purchased this book was to evualuate it for someone tnat owns a Samsung Tab 4 10.1 Tablet. He is a non techy person and new to Android tablets, smartphones and to computers as well So after reading this Kindle book, I loaned him my tablet so he could read this book. He later said to me that this book was helpful but did not go enough into details in his opinion...I agree. For example, he said that he wanted to find email tips, or suggestions about about getting onto internet browsers etc.*******What he did liike the most was the section called Troubleshooting Tab 4. He said this section was excellent and helped him. This is near the back of this book that has instant helps on the common situations...here is a list of what is covered:* Tablet Won't Turn On .... how to fix this situation.* Tablet Won't Turn Off...how to fix this.* Tablet Won't Charge...this helped him greatly!* Tablet Freezes Issue...Another tutorial that helped him understand why sometimes but rarely, his Tab r freezes.* WiFi Connection Issues....this really we both found great, however, as a techy myself, I also suggest that of a WiFi connections stops before unpluggiing the router, simply Turn Off the WiFi on tne tablet for 15 second then reconnect it. This many times fixes it right away, especially if you are a long distance from a router.* App Suddenly Stops ... this has good basic i fo on what to do for misbehaving apps etc.* Touchscreen Won't Work...the suggestions are OK, however, I will add one more...do not keep tapping too mant times in a row especially in the FaceBook app or starting a video in an app...my friend does this sometimes and it freezes his screen.* Tablet Too Hot To The Touch...helpful except let me say that playing games a long time or downloading apps, music etc will temporairly cause a tablet or phone to heat up to say 100+ degrees, but then it goes back down to under 89 degrees very soon usually. After reading this book a couple of times and asking my friend his opinion, we both agreed this book is good however, it could use more detailed information. This is why I rated this book at 4 stars, it is good, but needs more detail for a beginner to really understand things more.

Does not have enough info- I ended up getting 2 of the "My Samsung Galazy Tab 4" by Eric Butow (pub 2014) had more detail and photos, which is what I needed to include with the tablets I had purchased as gifts. I realize you can download or go to "help" for instructions, but most baby-boomers are used to being able to open a book so they can "look" at the object they are reading about or when trying to do step-by-step directions.

Not incredibly informative and there is no index to help you find stuff. Youcan't beat the price and its intent to help the most novice on Android user. For that reason I can only give it two stars.

Good helpful manual...

Perfect manual. Definately more information in this book than what you get when you purchase the Galaxy Tab 4. Definately recomment

I was expecting more than just an owner's manual. Samsung should include something similar when you purchase their tablets.

Commodore's Messenger: A Child Adrift in the Scientology Sea Organization (Volume 1), by Janis Gillham Grady

About the Author

Janis was born in Australia to Scientology "royalty," the third child of Peter Gillham, the founder of Natural Calm, and Yvonne Gillham-Jentzsch, the founder of the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre. Her stepfather is Heber Jentzsch, known for many years as the President of the Church of Scientology International, and its primary spokesman. At age 11, Janis, along with her brother Peter Jr. and her sister Terri, traveled to the Mediterranean to join Scientology's inner core, the Sea Organization. Aboard the Scientology ship Apollo, she worked for eight years as one of the personal messengers of Scientology's controversial founder, L. Ron Hubbard. She had a front-row seat as Hubbard expanded his new religion into a worldwide empire. After 22 years working as Hubbard's direct representative as a member of the elite Commodore's Messenger Organization, Janis became disillusioned with the direction Scientology was taking under its brash new leadership and escaped from Scientology's desert headquarters with her husband of eleven years, Paul Grady. They were done with Scientology, but Scientology was not done with them, covertly sending private investigators to stalk and harass them for years.

Commodore's Messenger is the extraordinary and heart-wrenching story of an eleven-year-old girl, virtually abandoned by her parents and forced to grow up in one of the strangest and most dysfunctional environments possible - Scientology's Sea Org ship Apollo. My heart went out to the little "waif," on her own in that strange and often brutal world. But the book is much more than a memoir. It is, in fact, the definitive history of Scientology's fanatical inner core, the "Sea Organization." Drawing on the stories and recollections of many other early Sea Org Members, Janis stitches together a comprehensive and fascinating narrative.Janis reminded me that when many of us first joined Scientology, we imagined that the center of Scientology, where Hubbard was, must be the most wonderful, sane, friendly place in the world. But when we got there, we found just the opposite. The closer you got to Hubbard, it seemed, the crazier and more oppressive and abusive it became. Janis recreates that world with honesty, candor, and a wealth of details.Reading the book, I understood exactly why the Apollo was treated with suspicion and eventually banned from ports. It wasn't some vast conspiracy, it was the fact that here was a ship full of raggedy young people, including some children and toddlers, who were secretive and mysterious about who they were and why they were there in the port. The people in the ports found them vague and evasive because they were trained to be vague and evasive. Hubbard's showy, superficial attempts at "PR" - like shipboard parties - didn't do much to dispel the mystery.I knew Janis' mother, Yvonne, as a good friend and an inspiring figure in Scientology. I wasn't aware of her trials and tragedies, so poignantly described in the book. How she had to contend with both Hubbard's advances, and, when she rejected him, his anger. Forced to live far from her children, she nonetheless created a friendly oasis for Scientologists, called Celebrity Centre. Her catchphrase, "If it isn't fun, it isn't Scientology," really encapsulates her approach to the subject. Scientology would have turned out vastly different if it had followed her model, rather than Hubbard's or Miscavige's. (And by the way, Dave Miscavige absolutely hates that phrase!)For anyone who was in Scientology or interested in the history of the subject, Janis' account fills in a lot of blanks and provides a comprehensive account of that period that rips away the mysteries and the myths.

If you are a fan of the Leah Remini show or if you have family or friends who were involved with Scientology or are interested in the history of Scientology, my good friend Janis Gillham Grady has written a new book and it is available on Amazon both as an e-book as well as a paperback. I have known Janis for almost 40 years. There is no one I know who is more honest and loyal and she has a hell of a memory for names and details! Raised in Scientology since she was a small child, she worked with L. Ron Hubbard daily beginning when she was 11 years old thru her teenage years. After his death, there were changes in Scientology and she decided to leave with her husband to start a family. Without much of a formal education and despite harassment and dirty tricks from the leftover leadership of Scientology, she became a successful and respected business woman in the Las Vegas mortgage industry and the proud mother of 2 children. This book tells her story of growing up in Scientology, right next to the Founder - L. Ron Hubbard. Almost no one was closer to him during those years. The book is full of fabulous photos of her and others on the Flag Ship Apollo as she tells her story. There also are great maps and diagrams which are great to refer to while reading the book. She also took the time to write a simple glossary of Scientology words and terms to make it easier to understand what is going on. Scientology has it's own "foreign language" and this glossary is very helpful. I highly recommend this book to all my family and friends!

In a market that is becoming filled with books of people who have left scientology and are talking, this book stands out because it goes back to the beginning and discusses more of the personal life of the founder, a subject most people have skated around or aren't privy to.I was particularly interested in this book because I knew Janis' mother, Yvonne and her stepfather, Heber. I worked with them professionally and loved them both dearly. This book by Yvonne's daughter was a gut wrencher to me. She talks of the time she spent in the presence of LRH, while her mother was not allowed to be with her. She doesn't once place blame on anyone or even paint herself as a victim. She simply leaves it up to the reader to draw their own conclusions. My conclusion was such anger that I waited to write this review until I could do it unemotionally. Hubbard stated in policy that children were simply adults in smaller bodies. Even Hubbard's children were treated as low paid slaves with little or no parental contact while on the same ship as their parents. That was an eye opener for me because the public persona always shows him as a devoted family man.Janis wasn't even allowed to have either of her parents on the same ship or see them at all for the most part. Janis started working in the ship at age ELEVEN.Those of us who worked at land bases dreamed of being allowed to work closer to LRH. Janis reveals that working closer was not all it was cracked up to be. I'm starting to read this book from the beginning again the minute I hear the release date of book two. This book is a must read for anyone who wants to know the truth of what it was like to work with LRH.
