My grandson cannot wait for our official "reading time" to read these! He begs, and woke me up this morning before school to read. Four stars only because I would like to see more grade-appropriate sight words included and care taken for more words that are easier to sound out and are pronounced as they are spelled. This can't be helped with character names and place names from the movies, etc, but they mostly know those. That said, the enthusiasm for reading these little sets can prompt in a reluctant reader - especially boys - cannot be overstated, and should be a hint to book publishers for this age group to provide less PC pablum (written to please adults) and more adventurous, interesting books for this boys this age who could care less about whiney, fearful saccharine-adorable animals with hang-ups and more about larger-than-life heroes they hope to emulate.
I am an elementary school teacher and my emerging readers (the boys at least) love this box set. These are the only books I have found I cannot let students take home...students just don't want to let go of them.
My son was tired of reading about pandas cleaning and doing housework in the boring books that got sent home from school. Who would want to read that over and over?! These books are great and they hold his attention, he enjoys reading about his favorite characters. I have already recommended these to a few friends!
Disappointed in these. I was looking for something simple to help my son learn to read but these words are way too complicated.
Love these books! My daughter is still on a pre-k reading level, but she loves these books, and they are great for sight words. Thanks to these books, my daughter now recognizes "fly" and "Hulk". I would recommend them for any child who loves superheros!
Perfect Christmas gift for my 4 year old step son. They are short enough that they don't lose interest and it gives you a list of "words to recognize" at the very beginning
Very cute books! My son who is three is really enjoying them. Only have a couple weeks of having them, he is starting to memorize them. They're short and simple, perfect for a three year old.
These are good for the early reader. Some of the words are a little more complicated, but I think that can be great practice for kids. I appreciate that the action in these books is limited.
