These are generally the bible of gun values. I use mine often. Just got the new 2019 today, Dec 18th, 2018. Of the first four guns I checked out, the Index lists the wrong page for three of them. For example, Winchester Model 101, Index lists it as page 1439. Nope, actually it's page 1432. S&W M&P VTAC, Index says 1135. Nope. Page 1128. Lots more examples! It's close, several pages off, but sheesh! C'mon guys! I paid a lot of money for this. Doesn't anyone proof-read anymore? I'd recommend saving your money and buying the 2019 Second Edition which I imagine will be reprinted soon! I'll be expecting my free copy.

I have this edition of this book in hard copy, as well as three prior editions going back forty years. I consider it an essential practical reference in connecting the electrical code to practical electrical work. My criticism is in the way the Kindle edition is set up.I am moving away from physical books at work, due to a 5s directive against keeping a personal reference library at work. I bought the Kindle edition, and have been reading it the last month. I am pleased in many ways with the Kindle version, but find it obnoxious that the index isn't hyperlinked. Other cross references throughout the text are. I'm not sure why this is, but this omission is serious as the location in a Kindle text cannot be correlated to a page number in a printed book.

This book is SCIENTIFIC as all get out.It is not for beginning electricians looking for simple code references or techniques.It is one of the most dense and comprehensive data catalogs I've ever owned.One day I hope to understand what at least 1/4 of it is talking about...

If you'er trying to get your Journeyman or Master Electrical license then you must get this book PERIOD!

I bought this solely for taking the Masters exam because I was told there is questions on the exam from this book as well as the NEC. This book is difficult to navigate, more so than the NEC, I did find that the questions that are on the Maters exam ,that are in this book, you should and probably already know If you're an experienced electrician. The trick to getting around in it is the index. It does have a ton of useful information in it and it's cool to have around as an electrician but if you're buying this as an electrical installation manual please don't and seek proper training.

Robert Kaplan describes the South China Sea as being “as central to Asia as the Mediterranean is to Europe.” He discusses the impact of a powerful China on the countries bordering the Sea. China believes that almost the entire Sea belongs to them, and they have plenty of old maps to support their claim. China is on the rise and it is starting to throw its weight around. China has indicated that it would like the US military to pull-out of Asia and it seems to have aspirations to become a regional hegemon. China's behavior has triggered a regional arms race and Kaplan is predicting that South East Asia will become less stable. Kaplan does not believe that a war between China and the United States is inevitable, it depends on how the US responds. He wants the US to accept a smaller role in the region and suggests that America may have to rethink its Asian strategy.Kaplan does a good job explaining the issues. Firstly, the South China Sea is an important waterway. More than half of the world’s annual merchant fleet tonnage passes through the region. Secondly, it contains a lot of oil and China is desperate for new energy. Chinese oil reserves account for only 1.1% of the world total, while it consumes over 10% of world oil production. China believes the South China Sea contains more oil than any area of the globe except Saudi Arabia. Some Chinese observers have called the South China Sea “the second Persian Gulf.” Thirdly, China is seeking an Asian version of the Monroe Doctrine, and believes in “Asia for the Asians.” Fourthly, the future of the region depends on whether the US is willing to pull-back and allow China to expand its power and influence.Kaplan believes the South China Sea is to China what the Greater Caribbean was to the United States in the 19th and early 20th centuries. He argues that the United States became a great power, geopolitically, by dominating the Caribbean. He claims that the Europeans departed the Caribbean allowing the US to dominate it. He suggests that the US should consider reciprocating in the South China Sea. “American officials…must be prepared to allow, in some measure, for a rising Chinese navy to assume its rightful position, as the representative of the region’s largest indigenous power.”Kaplan has this back-to-front. The US did not chase Britain out of the Caribbean. Britain had several sugar colonies in the region and possessed the world’s largest navy. It maintained several naval bases and in 1895 it could deploy forty-four battleships to America’s two. Its ships went where they wanted, like the US today. America still thought of Britain as its major geopolitical rival at Bretton Woods in 1944. Like Britain in the Caribbean, the US has no intention of pulling out of the South China Sea.The US has maintained a military edge over its rivals since WW2 because of its superior technology. Most "experts" in the media advise us that for the foreseeable future, China’s military is no match for America’s. The US Navy still relies on 11 very expensive, but increasingly vulnerable aircraft carriers to police the oceans. However, China has been developing capabilities specifically designed to counter America’s power in the Pacific. The Economist reports that for over two decades China has been investing in submarines, air defense systems, ballistic missiles, and advanced cyber capabilities. The aim is to make it too dangerous for America’s carriers to operate close to China. The Economist suggests that the US may find it difficult to win a war in the South China Sea. After all, the US fought China during the Korean War and the result was a draw.The US has been the hegemonic power in Asia since WW2, but it now has a rival. America assumes the right to send its ships close to the Chinese mainland, and China views this as intimidation. I have loved this strip since it came out. And while sometimes it goes into places I'm just not fond of (I'm not a cat person so some of the time spent on cats to me is just wasted panel space) it doesn't disappoint.Anyone with dogs will be able to appreciate so many of these comics. I think everyone has had one of *those* dogs, and had some of these exact same experiences.I didn't get to have the fun of the dog and baby at the same time, but having done both separately, there's just so much here to enjoy and reminisce (and grumble about in angry memory) on each page.I haven't followed any comic strip very closely since Bill Watterson stopped doing Calvin and Hobbes, but this is the only other one that really grabbed my attention and held it.Great job, and some of the Sunday panels are outright works of art.I hope he stays around for a long time for us to enjoy.

If you love dogs regardless of whether they're being adorable or ripping up your living room, you're likely to love Dog Eat Doug. I've been reading this comic strip online at GoComics for several years, and it's a delight. Sophie is a sweet and rambunctious chocolate lab pup who, true to her breed, finds every way possible to steal baby Doug's food---or at least lick it off Doug's face. But Brian Anderson's creativity extends far beyond the expected interactions between a puppy and a baby. The household also includes two diabolical cats, and the neighborhood encompasses an adorable lake monster, enterprising local squirrels, and an assortment of critters offering adventures and commentary. Various elements of science fiction and fantasy, including references to Doctor Who and Neil Gaiman, make regular appearances. My only disappointments in this collection are that most of the strips are not in color, as they are online (presumably due to the expense that would be involved in the print version), and that the lake monster appears only once. Minor grievances compared to the joy of watching Sophie and pals cavort.

Dog Eat Doug is one of the best strips around right now. Sophie, the much put upon Lab, baby Doug, and the two mischievous cats, Chewwy and Equinox get involved in some crazy antics. Add some nutty squirrels, some strange fish, and a lake monster to the equation and you have one of the funniest, zaniest comic strips around right now. Brian Anderson knows exactly what to do with his characters and brings them to life in a wonderful fashion. If you've ever had a baby, or a dog, or a cat, or just want some great laughs, Dog Eat Doug Volume 9 is just right for you. And check out Volumes 1-8...they are hysterically funny also.And on the plus side, Brian Anderson is one of the nicest, most generous comic strip authors around today.

My 9yo grandson read this collection in one night - he loves DeD that much! The humor definitely appeals to him, as do the quirky, adorable animals and characters. My appreciation of this book is equal but more because of the sweet affection between Dough and Sophie, and the dog and her other humans and other weird friends, and the terrific artwork. Brian Anderson is one of a very small handful of terrific artists doing strips today, and the fact he can match the visual with adorable, insightful, and sometimes very strange dialog, is just terrific.

It's not as funny to me as Calvin and Hobs, but it's close. The cuteness of Sophie the dog and Doug the baby grew on me. As evening approaches, I look forward to reading a few pages of these cuties' antics before bed. Every few strips I find myself laughing out loud. But that's not necessary to enjoy them--the interaction of very likable personalities gradually make the characters seem like family, so pleasure is found in being with them whether or not there are actual laughs. Thanks, Mr. Anderson!

Enter the delightful world of Sophie, a precious pooch, who coexists with Doug, a baby, and a pair of evil genius cats! Oh, and throw in some squirrels and birds to make this one of the most enjoyable comic strips I've read in a while. If you're a dog or cat lover, this collection is a MUST! And even if you're not a pet owner, you'll enjoy these! Just the BEST! *****

Sophie and Dougie come alive panel after panel, cultural reference after reference.Where else could you find Michael Bay directing the next Cars sequel, sitting right next to spiders paragliding from rotating fans?

I've been reading Dog Eat Doug for years. This is a great collection. It has those moments we all experience, some great geek comics, and Easter eggs for those who lean to the geeky side. Doug has one fantastical toy box.Anyone reading is sure to find themselves laughing often.

The good first: it's definitely a great reference of different logical fallacies and I can warmly recommend it to anyone interested in logic and/or rhetoric who will surely get to use it regularly (and that alone makes it well worth the money).There are some minor omissions and errors, but they shouldn't bother too much. The author's attempts in jokes are also a matter of taste (the book could do well without some of the toilet humour, but some of other jokes are quite funny really). What matters is the content, and this is definitely a great reference work.The biggest problem I find is that there is no structure or even useful sorting order in the book. Clearly, some fallacies are related to others, or are even special cases or variations of others. Instead of grouping them together, the author chose to sort all of them *alphabetically* (if you know that many if not most of them start with "Argument to ..." you can guess how it looks like).Moreover, there are also no cross-references that would link the fallacies together (just a "See also" section would already help a lot).If anything, that at least makes a case for the Kindle edition. This book really gains from a good search function. It's also significantly cheaper...

I bought this book expecting to find a list of the 25 or so generally recognized classic fallacious arguments, such as argumentum ad hominem, the strawman, and the red herring, not the ridiculous number of artificially named subsets of fallacious arguments into which this author broke the classic fallacies down. More importantly, I wanted a book on syllogistic reasoning, not only the classic, “If-Then,” but also the more complex “Categorical” and “Disjunctive.” For the price and size of the book, and considering the education of the author, I even expected discussion of set theory in syllogisms. In other words, I thought I was buying a work close to a college textbook on critical thinking; not a middle-school level text on boorish argument.

Absolutely amazing. This book gives you tools to see the truths of communication that have vanished since the advent of the internet. It seems people (myself included) rationalize based on popularity rather than logic. This book goes along way towards putting the tools of understanding back in our hands.

Great compilation. It also includes obscure fallacies that I thought were fallacies and now I know which they are. Also, it includes extensive lists of alternate names in case you remember one by another name. Finally, the examples are short, sweet and clearly illustrate the fallacy, unlike other books that make the examples sometimes way too wordy.

Great book, fun to read. I like the definition/example style (it's more like a reference book than a straight read).If you're interested in debate, and logical constructors in arguments this is a definite buy.On a personal note, don't learn the fallacies by name and then point them out "that's a strawman argument!" "that's ad hominem!". Use the weakness in those types of arguments to defeat them with logic, not definition (which is a fallacy of it's own).

This book is a tremendously valuable self-improvement resource for clear thinking.I have the Kindle and iTunes versions of this book. They both operate flawlessly. A helpful feature contained in these electronic versions is the addition of hyperlinks embedded within the text which allows the reader to move to other relevant areas of interest. ​As a reader, I expect a book on logic to be organized "logically." This book passes with a five stars here. The free sample download includes the first 13 "alphabetized" fallacies which gives a good sense of the scope of the book. The author's format is: name each fallacy, describe it, represent its "logical form," give examples of the fallacy, and discuss exceptions to the rule, tips and variations. Downloading the sample will help you decide whether or not to ultimately purchase the book.Many of the examples are hysterically funny. Warning to the reader: you need to be in fairly good health to read this book, as the humor is literally gut-busting and side-splitting. The humorous examples are in and of themselves worth purchase.The often deceptive and manipulative arguments, reasoning and tactics of salesmen, talking head pundits, opinion writers and political and religious demagogues are readily seen for what they are after reading this book. Looking inwardly, I can better identify my own areas of fallacious thinking.Some of the other Amazon reviews of this book surmise that "faith-based" people will find the religious examples offensive. Perhaps. I think we all have mental blind spots no matter what religious or irreligious beliefs we hold. The author uses many examples that include "common creationist arguments". He says "let me be clear, maybe the universe is just 6000 years old. For the purpose of the book, it doesn't matter. Fallacies are not necessarily about the truth of the argument; they are more about the form of the argument."

I recommend this book on critical thinking and how we can identify when logic is being abused to appeal to our emotion or create deception.

This is a useful book if one just wants a brief exposure to many fallacies. The writer is clear, succinct, and amusing at times. He organizes 300 fallacies alphabetically. This may be useful if you know what to label the fallacy you are interested in but not so helpful if you want to learn what type of fallacy may be present in speech or writing that one encounters in daily life. It would be more useful to classify them into types or groups although he does say that there is no agreement on how to organize fallicies. At the end of the book he does list the 25 most common fallacies with links to his descriptions.All in all, not a bad book as an introduction. It was a bit dry to read. I ended up reading small sections at any one sitting. I will be looking for other books an this topic for a more thorough and hopefully readable account.

I read this book to be more intentional in being a better communicator, thinking my listening was a strength. As I read, the author brought up when your mind wanders while listening to someone else speak or if you're thinking that you wish they'd get to the point already. I have to admit I do that at times. Being more aware of that and the tips to bring my attention back and focus were worth reading it.There were also a few tips on communicating I picked up as well, like the x,y,z approach and more. One of my favorite lines in the book was: "You might think the person already knows that you applaud, admire, or appreciate them, but how are they to know for sure unless you tell them? Remove all doubt and let them know." Straightforward, but powerful.The Action Guide included was invaluable, as well, as I begin to implement some of the tips into my daily life and with the people I love most.

This book is a critical addition to the library of anyone who has relationships (hint: all of us). If there is one thing that undermines all of our relationships, it is poor or lack of communication.I recently just completed a week long retreat on this exact topic, so I was pleasantly surprised at the completeness of the ideas in the book. The book starts essentially by addressing one's self, which is critical and convinced me the book was well worth the time.The chapter on "Listening Blocks" alone is worth the price. Simple tools like using the 3 A's make it easy to apply the ideas in this book. The book ends with a 12 day challenge that is sure to change your life.Highly Recommended.

Bento Leal III did a great job at making a common problem rather simple to solve: if we follow the plan through, of course. It works! I tried it! The language is warm, alive, and unique. Well done!

It shows how to be less judgmental in your listening and how to better understand the person to whom your speaking. The author has had plenty of experience working with couples and singles in counseling atmospheres and it shows it in his writing. A must read to help with your communication skills.

I found this book to be very readable and, unlike many books on communication skills, it is born out of real life experience in teaching thousands of couples. It is not a bunch of theoretical concepts but is practical and applicable immediately. A good read, and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their relationships.
