I know this author is a Bible teacher for a women's ministry, so I shouldn't have been surprised that this book is heavy on the teaching and light on story. I knew the broad outline of what was happening in the author's life -- ill health, divorce -- and was interested in hearing how she was doing. But, honestly, I believe memoir would have been a better way to tell her story.In this book, the author is so intent on teaching the reader that her own story takes a back seat. I would rather have heard more about her own personal struggle to come to terms with the circumstances of her life -- what she is learning, not what we should learn. It was difficult for me to empathize with her because the moment she shares something personal, she is off and running with the lesson. That, or she bounces off the painful revelations into silly stories about her medical exams and therapy sessions. When I closed the book, those were the passages I remembered, because they were vivid and specific. I had hoped the entire book would have this vividness. Without it, and without the emotional depth her story should have, the book doesn't have the impact it could have. I want to weep with those who weep, mourn with those who mourn, but the format of this book works against that desire.In this genre, called "Christian Living," authors often attempt to teach by writing in vague ways they hope will allow any reader to apply the lesson to their lives. So, for example, in Chapter 8, the author builds her lesson around a comment by a friend that upsets her. But the author doesn't reveal what was said to her. How can I understand her overreaction without knowing what set it off? "In the particular is contained the universal," James Joyce said. I wish more writers would take that to heart.All in all, this book will satisfy fans of Lysa TerKeurst, as it's written in her tried-and-true study format. But if you're looking for an indepth story of one woman's pain and how she is working her way through it, this is not that book.

While that was tame and I kept thinking ... a friend at a PTO meeting rejects you... that isn't true rejection, come on now, Lysa... that book didn't hit the spot.THIS BOOK DID.It was raw without being jaded, real without being cynical, heartbreaking without being hopeless, and Exactly what you can relate to if you have, quoting Lysa, "licked the floor of hell."If you've "licked the floor of hell" then Uninvited is like a band aid on an amputated leg.THIS BOOK is not.It's like Streams In The Desert... one of the few Christian books that does not minimize pain in an effort to maximize God. It is both validating of where you're at (or where you've been) while always pointing to Jesus.

I am very picky about the female authors for Christian non-fiction. I much prefer Frangipane, Tozer, etc.. I am a huge fan of Terkeurst however! She is open, raw, funny, but really knows the word of God and manages to hit you in those deep places that you think someone just does not understand what you are going through.She does understand.She has been there and is willing to share it all. I cannot recommend this book enough and even bought 3 more to give as gifts to those it will help, as it is helping me during a difficult season of my life.There is never a dull moment in Lysa's books, this is no exception. No pretention, no author distance, reading it is like sitting down and having a cup of coffee and talking to her.Wherever you are in your life, no matter how deep the rabbit hole goes with your problems, she finds you there with her poignant honesty and you won't be the same after.Thank you Lysa for your openness and vulnerability in this book!

I was so excited I got to read this book. I have heard lots of good things about this author and a prior book of hers. My friend suggested this book because she knows I am going though an "It's not supposed to be this way," time in my life. Lysa is so personable & she is so down to earth with her writing style. She helped me relate what I am going through to what she is going through and how to look at it from a different perspective. I read the book in 2 days, but I plan to reread again to make sure I really dive into the heart of what she was conveying.

I bought this book (along with the other books in the series) to go along with our 4th grade unit on animal adaptations. My students LOVE them! I can hardly keep them on the book shelf of my classroom library! The illustrations are charming and even inspired several of my students to create their OWN illustrations of themselves with animal body parts. The author did a great job of teaching an important science concept in a funny, engaging way. I love these books so much that I just pre-ordered the next book in the series, which is coming out right as school is starting. These books would make a great addition to ANY collection, whether it's at home or at school or whether it's for learning or just for fun. You'll enjoy them for sure!

This is a great series featuring animal adaptations. All of my children ages 3-11 love these books. They are very fun to read and the images are great. I lover when learning is fun. I enjoyed this book as much as the children. I highly recommend this book to other parents. I purchased this book first and my children kept asking for others in the series because they loved them so much. We read this together as a family.

I read this last week to my grandson's 2nd grade class, and they loved it!!!! I did something that made it more fun, I think. The format of this book is the left side has the "non-fiction" facts about a particular animal, and the right page, has a picture of a child with that animal's teeth. To keep the "surprise," I covered the right side of the book so the class couldn't see the picture of child until they heard the fact page, and then I took the cover off. It worked exactly as I hoped! They loved the surprise rather than looking at that picture while I read the facts on the left. A real hit...

We love these books! My little boy can’t get enough! He’s 4 & wants all of them and I agree! They are so interesting and the illustrations are fantastic! Imaginative, fun way to share wondeful things about various animals! These books would be great for a wide range of ages! I read bits and pieces to my 4 year old but as he gets older we can really discuss more about the book and the various things about it! It will really grow with us!

Great books, I was very surprised they have cute little fun facts and they really make you giggle all my children ages 2-13 have enjoyed them. The older girls have been reading to the younger girls.We purchased 3 from the set so far and we will be ordering more. My 2nd grader took hers to school and the teacher LOVED THEM TOO. And the class have been reading them. 100% recommend them. Well made books also.

Love it! This is an adorable book that kept kids of many ages engaged. It also helped facilitate a love for reading - after I read the book, students took it out of the classroom library to read themselves. It was the most requested book! I would highly recommend this for any elementary science teacher, parent with a child who loves animals, or anyone who enjoys reading quality books to kids.

My children love this book. They love being able to visualize if they had different parts of an animal. The book has a simple statement on one side and more detail on the other page allowing you to differentiate depending on the children's abilities.

Very engaging for preschoolers and children through elementary school! I highly recommend all the books in the series. The "What if..." approach and illustrations make the interesting facts even more appealing and interesting to children. Kids would love to have this book and read it at home, and in the classroom there are so many possibilities to extend learning!

I love Jason Reynolds, and I'm a huge fan, but I'm really glad this series is over. I've said this before, so I don't want to sound like a broken record, but I feel like the series just got more and more boring with each character. It felt like the writing got more childish with each book and the stories less interesting.Ghost was and still is my favorite character, and I wish the whole series was told from his perspective. I liked the little storyline with the coach and Lu's dad, although I felt it was resolved a little too easy.I also wish there was a book told from the coach's perspective.

4.5 starsLu and his family are THE CUTEST. So, this book opens with Lu finding out his mother is having a baby, and then becomes a great take about making mistakes and rising above terrible choices.Reynolds ties out his amazing series with a very honest tale with some tough life lessons built-in. Addiction is a big part of this story, and I think it’s an important and relatable topic for middle grade literature. Our kids today are seeing and experiencing addiction in staggering numbers and we need to discuss the consequences and impacts of this disease more openly.And what makes this book even better is we finally learn so much more about Coach. His childhood, his past, his philosophies, his family...A great ending, bittersweet, yet satisfying.

Jason Reynolds does it again for sure! While Sunny is still my favorite character in this series, Jason wraps everything up perfectly in Lu.

Amazing track series! Must read for middle school students! Easy! Fabulous author!

I have passed my Security+ in December and i have found that this book goes way more in-depth on the topics than the exam itself, which is amazing. It is better you overprepare rather than underprepare. If you have the extra money to spare for this book, by all means, go ahead.Now to the bad part, the price of it. The book has great formatting and it the information in it is described in terms simple enough for a very beginner to understand, however this book is absolutely littered with typos and clerical mistakes. It is completely fine to have those in a book, but not in almost every single paragraph. From what i see, it gets worse as the chapters go. It is unacceptable for this kind of price to have so many trivial mistakes of that kind. The book has to be proofread and reprinted for sure.There are books out there that give you 1 for 1 information and are a third or less price. They also don't have as many clerical errors in them. If this book was simply less than $100 and was reprinted to correct the mistakes, it would simply be the best value for your money on the market, but it is not, as it stand right now.

Eye opener examples revealing the hidden information security world. Covers and goes beyond the Comptia Security+ objectives. This is a beginner to advance compilation. Thank you Mark
