I love Chris' writing style...personality goes a long way. I haven't finished yet, but there is some misleading information on some of the graphic inserts, and he explains part of STP port priority function just plain backwards from the truth. I had to go to my copy of the official Cisco Press release to verify the correct information. Due to this, I hesitate to accept other things in the book, and feel like I'll be second guessing information, which is bad when you're prepping for a test.

I give OK. It is not enough for passing the exam. Very simple to read. You can go through in a few days the way it is written. I liked reading it, but it does not cover all the bells and wiseles. I give it a 2 star because I do not believe it is worth buying. CISCO PRESS BOOKS are just way better. I read both, and I liked Cisco press way more. Just watch Chris's video on Udemy, and it will suffice from what you can get in Chris's material. I hope it had been helpful.

I have been using Chris Bryant's Cisco exam prep material since the TrainSignal days. His CCNA course helped pave the way for not only passing my CCNA, but scoring exemplary marks on my exam. Last year I was defeated by the 300-115 exam after reading the Cisco OCG book cover to cover three times. I also did several exercises on my home lab. You would think Cisco's OFFICIAL Certification Guide would have all the material required to pass the exam. No offense to David Hucaby, the book is well written just incomplete. When I sat for the test, there were many questions that were not covered. There is nothing more frustrating than to sacrifice countless hours to study for an exam only to have gaps in information. I have been going through the Bryant Advantage Success Series volume for the 300-115 and Chris ACTUALLY explains the grey areas that Cisco failed to cover. I place for the test on 2/20/17 and study for at least four hours every day. I have also been taking Boson practice exams (highly recommended). In the end, this is only an exam. Sure, it may set you back $300 (Cisco or Pearson just increased the exam fees :O), but if you work hard enough you will pass this exam. Even if you fail, this course upgrades your skills as a Network Engineer and that can never be taken from you. Excellent work Chris and I am patiently waiting for your CCDA/CCDP/CCIE courses. ;-)

I was very excited to get this book based on all the positive reviews. I'd warn anyone considering purchasing this that I'm on chapter 5 and there are multiple errors. I'd be okay with this if there was a place to track the errata, but there is not. I've sent an email to the author and no response. It's a shame because I like his style, but I don't recommend this book for exam prep.

Chris is an amazing instructor that presents topics in a easy to understand manner, and he adds some personality and spice to the material. I recently passed my CCNP Route test using Chris's book and video course. I want to say the things I like about this book are that it is Large, the font is large and you can read it without straining your eyes. There is plenty of space to make notes on the large pages, and it comes at a price that makes it alright to write in it! I love how the book follows his video courses so you can have a clear reference to follow along. I love having a paper book that I can pull out and study anywhere I happen to be. The things that I think he could do better with this book are: A Table of Contents, when it is coming up on test day and I need to flip around and find a specific chapter or section. A Index, even a basic one. The index is important when I am trying to find that one specific thing to review. I would love to see an Appendix with complete configs for all the labs. I would also love to see some review questions at the end of each chapter. Even with those things this book gets five stars for the sheer quality of it's content, its affordability, its large size and readable font. Chris, when are you going to get the TSHOOT book out?!?

On pages 85-90 of this book, Mr. Bryant gives a scenario to try to explain how interface port-priority manipulation is used to determine the root port of downstream switches. His configurations and examples are completely wrong in the book. They basically instruct an administrator to make a port-priority number higher for interfaces you prefer to become the root port. When in reality the lowest port-priority number on an interface determines the downstream election. His udemy course taught this concept correctly but after spending a couple hours researching this topic after being misinformed from the book I was a little upset. I am writing this review for anyone else who might be researching the same issue.

Very, very conversational tone and easy to read. Probably the best book to purchase to study for CCNP switch. However, there are some details he leaves out that the Cisco Press books contain, some of the more minute stuff. Some of it might be on the test, some might not, depends on what you draw, but I'd say, overall, this is the best book on the market for CCNP Switch.

As always, Chris provides good stuff that is easy to follow and in my mind blows CBT Nuggets away. His stuff is even above Ken Wallace that does the Cisco sponsored videos. Find Chris's 300-115 video course and you will have what it takes to pass the exam the first time.

On impulse, I bought my wife a Nook for Christmas. Impulse grew out of my elation with the Kindle Fire my 3 adult daughters gave me for my birthday. Initially, Wife struggled with the instructions that were provided with the Nook. In desperation, I purchased this book to give her a lift. Eureka, it worked and now she is thrilled with Nook, just as I am with my Kindle Fire. I have come to a hgh level of respect for the completeness of this whole series of books for Idiots. They provide the detailed information that a rookie or beginner needs in all subject areas. This was an Amazpn Purchase.John Tyler Gibson, Livonia, Michigan;

shorthened version. made so it is easy to understand. Author has a good sense of humor. Very knowledgeable and educated on product.

wow, wore this to a wedding reception and so many compliments I love it

This seems to be another fine book in the "Dummies" series, but I found out it didn't cover my particular Nook model. Would have been nice if the book description on Amazon had some indication of which models it covered.

Purchased for my mother. Not used by me.

this is what everyone needs a treu book to using and getting the most out of your nook. cannot be beat.

I learned more on the tablet itself. good reference to keep handy.if you need to look something up quickly.ok help

provides many answers to questions that the clerks at BN dont know. Its easy to use and make the tablet fun to use, so much so you wont want to put it down

This review originally appeared on herestohappyendings.com.I've heard so many mixed reviews about We Were Liars over the years, but I hadn't read it, and I'm not sure why. It's weird, because it seems like most readers either love it or hate it - there aren't too many who seem to be in the middle. When I heard that the deluxe edition of the book was coming out, I figured I probably should get around to it already, because pretty much every other blogger and YA book fan I know has already read this one.So I read it. It was a pretty quick read, and I read it all in one night - I started it like at 11 at night and finished it around 2 am I guess. While the overall story wasn't bad, I wasn't blown away by anything and I kind of felt it was lackluster, and for the most part I was left with more questions than I had before I even started the book.In We Were Liars, we have four privileged and spoiled kids who spend their summers on a private island together. The four of them are pretty good friends, as well as cousins - all except for Gat. These kids have the whole island to swim, hang out, go to dinners - pretty much anything they want - all while spending the summers with their families and grandfather, who more or less owns the entire island. But the kids in the Sinclair family, as well as Gat, have secrets - and they aren't pretty secrets. They've done things that they aren't proud of. Things that have some serious repercussions. In fact, the adults on the island have taken to calling them "The Liars."During the stuff that's going on with the kids, the adults have their own things to worry about - including who gets the homes on the island, who gets what in terms of money - all of that jazz. Since their grandfather is getting older, he is trying to remodel and make sure that the homes go to the right children in the family.I don't mean to be vague when I talk about this book, but I really don't want to give away any hints or anything that could make the story less enjoyable for those who haven't yet read it (although I doubt that there are too many!). It does have it's moments where I think it's a great and creative story, and I do so love reading about spoiled rich kids (guilty pleasure when it comes to reading!), so for the most part, I did enjoy it.But there was so much here that I am going to be picky about - things that I didn't enjoy. For one, the characters weren't very fleshed out and I feel like they weren't very memorable - in fact, I honestly can't remember their names or who each was in the family. I can only remember Gat because he wasn't actually part of the family, but he was the son of the guy that one of the adults wanted to marry, but wouldn't because she was afraid her grandfather would disinherit her. Also, that twist of an ending was clever, but I honestly saw it coming, and can't say that it made much sense, especially if you go back into the book and think about things. It made everything even more confusing instead of answering any questions that I had. It did tie the original story together, though, but some of the details bothered me, and I won't even get into them because this is supposed to be a spoiler free review.I did love the whole idea behind the family spending time on the private island, though - it really makes this the perfect book for summer, as that's when it takes place - over the course of a summer and through memories of past summers. It made for the perfect read for a beach trip or vacation. As far as the deluxe edition material went, I loved the hand drawn map of the island, and the family tree was a great addition - I found myself looking at both of these while reading the book, and it helped me paint a better picture of what was going on where and which characters were related and how. These were awesome additions to the book. Also, the author material in the back was interesting as well, and it added a bit to the reading experience. I definitely have to recommend picking up the deluxe edition of the book for these things alone - they really do enrich the reading experience and they're pretty nifty.I wish I could have absolutely loved this book, but I just didn't - I did like it, just not enough to praise it as much as some others who have really enjoyed the book. It was definitely interesting, and I'll probably end up reading it again, but I just wasn't able to really connect with it as much as I would have liked to have been able to.Note: I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review - Thank you!

The first 70% of this book was enticing, which is why I gave it 3 stars. The narrative made it easy to read. I didn't find the romance silly, overdone or corny because it is a young adult (YA) read and love feels so real with adolescent hormones. But then came the plot twist around 80% in and the rest of the book is mourning, mourning, mourning, guilt and more mourning. I rushed to the end, looking forward to the story being over. I grew up around the 1% so that part of the story development is realistic. But overall, I wouldn't recommend this book for adults, unlike some of the reviews. It is quite a let down.

"She confused wit with intelligence, and made people laugh rather than lightening their hearts or making them think."This book fit my mood *perfectly*. It was dramatic and a little twisted, but also reminded me of the beach. The story follows the wealthy Sinclair family who owns a private island near Martha's Vineyard where they spend summer every year. The self-named Liars are three cousins and one outsider, all around the same age, who become best friends and allies. There's romance, interesting social commentary, and CRAZY family dynamics.I loved the lyrical, almost poetic, style of writing. It's clear from the beginning that the narrator Cadence isn't to be trusted, and it was so entertaining reading her parsed memories and piecing the full story together. My only complaint is that I called The Big Twist early on. I wish there had been a greater air of mystery surrounding it, or that it could've been even more subtle. But overall, this was an engrossing and enjoyable read. I recommend for fans of contemporary YA who are looking for something a little bit different to try, or for those who thoroughly enjoyed Franny Billingsley's Chime.

The description of the book will tell you what it's all about, so I'll skip that and get to what I thought about it. The writing is good--poetic, but not pretentious. If the editor hasn't done his or her job, I tend to do it in my head while I'm reading, but I didn't need to here. Lockhart's prose is clear, consistent, and vivid. The narrator's voice is believable, fresh, and likable. This is the sort of book that could be spoiled VERY easily, so I won't say too much about it. I will say that I'll be turning 40 soon, but I enjoyed reading the book. I also teach middle and high school English classes and am always looking for books to recommend to students, and I would definitely recommend this one. Students should be able to relate to the issues of friendship, family conflict, and new love. The book also deals with issues of class and race. If I were to read this as a class, I could definitely see us getting into some really interesting discussions about the actions of the characters. With all that said, why did I only give it 4 stars? It felt like something was missing from the ending. The surprise is quite significant, but things seem to be glossed over. I'd like to have seen some more...well, I don't want to say or I'd give away the ending.Anyway, I plan on reading more of E. Lockhart's books. I think she's a talented writer who will be a go-to recommendation for my students from now on.

Unfortunately, I hated this book. I felt like it was so predictable, the plot was bland, and I found almost all of the characters unlikeable and undeveloped. On top of that, I hated the writing style. Lastly, it was a lot of buildup for a quick ending that was unsatisfying anyway.

I will admit that I had a hard time getting into this book, with all the name- dropping and not too much familiarity with the Hamptons. However, the book entirely redeems itself with the section (near the end) on Jerry Della Femina, especially his wife Judy Licht's quote regarding the snobbery and restrictive action by the established locals against her husband: "I'm sure the Indians felt the same way about your ancestors as you feel about my husband. It's called the 'there goes the neighborhood' syndrome." Indeed. The book is a good illustration of the ridiculousness of social pecking orders and the concept of "nobility," essentially the rapers and pillagers claiming moral superiority based on their theft of land and wealth.

Have an iPad or phone nearby as you read it so you can look up the homes and people referenced.

The Hamptons, Beverly Hills, Palm Beach, Vero Beach, Buckhead. If you've been to these places you've seen it--the distinctly American phenomenon of super-wealth attempting to forestall spiritual death with ostentatious materialism. That's what this book is about. Though America's super-wealthy frequently have European aristocratic pretenses, money alone does not nobility make. The author makes this point to us through a sometimes not-so-careful critique of specific super-wealthy Hamptonites. He could have just as easily written about one of these other enclaves of flashy, superficial elegance.

Been to Hamptons (Wrong Hamptons) many times but did not know hardly anything about it, This book was educational, interesting and full of great stories about the people and their goings on. Loved it!!

INTERESTING!!

Very lively and gossip filled but, I believe, accurate from what I have been told by those were were on the scene at the time. A good read that keeps moving smartly along.

My husband & I wanted to read this book together. We couldn't get into it. Perhaps if you are more familiar with the Hamptons, all the detail would be interesting to you, but we weren't compelled to continue... We found the writing 'thick' and the story laborious.

Wow, what a grabber! This is an interesting story of the Hamptons and real estate and wealth. What you read will be hard to believe, such wasted money and resources. The Hamptoms are beautiful and unique, like another planet. Very well written book! Buy it for your friends.

Review

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER“An entertaining, provocative and highly-readable story by a great storyteller...you will rethink your own definition of normal, and it may spark a new appreciation of the untapped potential behind every quirky, awkward person who doesn’t quite fit in.”—New York Times blog“Deeply felt and often darkly funny, Look Me in the Eye is a delight.”—People magazine (Critics Choice, 4 Stars)“It's a fantastic life story (highlights include building guitars for KISS) told with grace, humor, and a bracing lack of sentimentality.”—Entertainment Weekly“A highly entertaining, crazy ride...heartbreaking, inspiring and funny.” —Psychology Today“Lean, powerful in its descriptive accuracy and engaging in its understated humor...Emotionally gripping.” —Chicago Tribune“Robison’s lack of finesse with language is not only forgivable, but an asset to his story . . . His rigid sentences are arguably more telling of his condition than if he had created the most graceful prose this side of Proust.” —Chicago Sun-Times“Look Me in the Eye is a fantastic read that takes readers into the mind of an Aspergian both through its plot and through the calm, logical style in which Robison writes. . . Even if you have no personal connections with Asperger’ s, you’ll find that Robison—like his brother, Burroughs—has a life worth reading about.”—Daily Camera“Not only does Robison share with his famous brother, Augusten Burroughs (Running With Scissors), a talent for writing; he also has that same deadpan, biting humor that's so irresistible.” —ELLE magazine“Dramatic and revealing...There's an endearing quality to Robison and his story that transcends the "Scissors" connection … Look Me in the Eye is often drolly funny and seldom angry or self-pitying. Even when describing his fear that he'd grow up to be a sociopathic killer, Robison brings a light touch to what could be construed as dark subject matter…Robison is also a natural storyteller and engaging conversationalist.”—The Boston Globe“This is no misery memoir…[Robison] is a gifted storyteller with a deadpan sense of humour and the book is a rollicking read.”—Times (UK)“Look Me in the Eye should be required reading for teachers and human services professionals, concerned parents and anyone who likes a well-crafted story of a life zestfully lived to the beat of wildly different drums.” —Bookreporter“Robison's memoir is must reading for its unblinking (as only an Aspergian can) glimpse into the life of a person who had to wait decades for the medical community to catch up with him.” —Booklist“Well-written and fascinating.” —Library Journal“Thoughtful and thoroughly memorable…Moving…In the end, Robison succeeds in his goal of “helping those who are struggling to grow up or live with Asperger’s” to see how it “is not a disease” but “a way of being” that needs no cure except understanding and encouragement from others.” —Publishers Weekly“Affecting, on occasion surprisingly comic memoir about growing up with Asperger’s syndrome….The view from inside this little-understood disorder offers both cold comfort and real hope, which makes it an exceptionally useful contribution to the literature.” —Kirkus Reviews“Of course this book is brilliant; my big brother wrote it. But even if it hadn’t been created by my big, lumbering, swearing, unshaven ‘early man’ sibling, this is as sweet and funny and sad and true and heartfelt a memoir as one could find, utterly unspoiled, uninfluenced, and original.”—from the foreword by Augusten Burroughs, author of Running with Scissors“Look Me In The Eye is a wonderful surprise on so many levels: it is compassionate, funny, and deeply insightful. By the end, I realized my vision of the world had undergone a slight but permanent alteration; I had taken for granted that our behavioral conventions were meaningful, when in fact they are arbitrary. That he is able to illuminate something so simple (but hidden, and unalterable) proves that John Elder Robison is at least as good a writer as he is an engineer, if not better.”—Haven Kimmel (who was in attendance at the 1978 KISS tour*), author of A Girl Named Zippy “I hugely enjoyed reading Look Me in the Eye. This book is a wild rollercoaster ride through John Robison’s life--from troubled teenage prankster to successful employment in electronics, music, and classic cars. A kindly professor introduced him to electrical engineering, which led to jobs where he found techie soulmates that were like him. A fascinating glimpse into the mind of an engineer which should be on the reading list of anyone who is interested in the human mind.” —Temple Grandin, author of Thinking in Pictures and Animals in Translation“John Robison's book is an immensely affecting account of a life lived according to his gifts rather than his limitations. His story provides ample evidence for my belief that individuals on the autistic spectrum are just as capable of rich and productive lives as anyone else.”—Daniel Tammet, author of Born on a Blue Day: Inside the Extraordinary Mind of an Autistic Savant

I enjoyed this book. Robison had difficulty all of his life relating to people, emotions, social situations. He was incredibly gifted in understanding electronics and math, but normal conversations baffled him. It wasn't until he was 40 yrs old that he was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome - a form of autism. In this memoir he recounts his awkward childhood, few friends, the butt of jokes, being bullied. Even though he tested far above his schoolmates in intelligence, he dropped out of school before graduating. His home life was chaos, with an alcoholic father and a mother with mental issues. His expertise in electronics led to small jobs fixing amplifiers for local rock bands, and finally as the electronics special-effects guy for the band KISS. He entered the corporate world helping design inter-active games and early video games, but finally left when he was promoted to management and didn't like it (managing people was difficult, he was not able to use his hands and expertise, and the rat-race stress was too much). He went back to mechanics and opened a luxury car repair business. The parts of the memoir where he discusses his feelings and frustrations about relationships, and the Asperger's-related issues, are very good. But (as other reviewers have noted) there is way too much technical stuff about retrofitting fire-breathing guitars and designing games. Overall, a good memoir, if you can kind of scan over the super-techie parts.

John Elder, you are awesome for what you have overcome! We have a seven year old (also named John) who was diagnosed a few months ago. Trouble in school, self hate and other things are big things already. This memoir opened my eyes to an understanding of what we are dealing with on a daily basis; his anxiety; his lack of understanding at others expressions in speech, and body language; his frustration with other people not understanding his point the first time (He hates explaining things to "stupid" people). THANK YOU for sharing your story, it is amazing to see the hope of a bright future, the perseverance of someone who kept on trying new things and learned to work through difficulties and find a measure of satisfaction with life in spite of emotional and social adversity. People who read this book need to be sure and read the Preface and Prologue as they are an essential part of the book, as well. I read cover to cover with a pencil, marked it up with points to review and then went back and read the entire thing again.

My grandson was recently diagnosed as autistic. Being one of his caregivers for the last 4 years, I had not seen a difference in his actions and mine as a child or some even now. After scoring high in an Autism Spectrum Quotient test online, I spoke to my therapist. He suggested I read this book. After reading, pieces of my childhood started to fall into place and questions unanswered for the past 50 years began to make sense. This is a good read for anyone who suspects they may be on the spectrum, knows someone on the spectrum, or just wants to know more about autism.

I have a young son who is 4 years old. He is atypical but very subtle when you meet him. Most people think his "traits" (sensitivity to sound, late potty train, echoing (repetitions of words), delay lack of communication flapping of arms when excited, lack of play with others) will be outgrown eventually. However, highly intelligent recognize letters and counts to 200 at age 2, reads, writes, spells, memorize downloadable from videos at age 2 1/2 years. As with motherly instincts, I insisted to the pediatrician that I need to see specialists which with persistency eventually happened. So with his second follow up in a few weeks with a child's developmental specialists, I decided to do some research by reading and watching videos of Aspergers. I don't know what the results will be with my son but at least I can be more knowledgeable about this topic. This gives you understanding of how Aspergerians deal with social aspects, why they do what they do and that despite this condition (NOT a disease), they can still have a family, career....a fulfilling life. The only part that I didn't really care for is the details of his interests (experiments, pyrotechnics, trains). It was a bit boring to me but after reading this book, you will understand why. Overall, I think families should look into this book as a way to understand the perception of this way of life.

I read this book when it was new before the advent of Amazon into my life. I love this book--the way that it is written and the impact that it had on me as a person. I did not know about Asperger. Now I take the time to realize that not everyone comes to me will have everything I thought that a human would have. I realize we all have differences--sometimes you can notice these as Asperger's. It made me realize I have no concept about what life has given the other person so now I do not judge. I just listen.

This book is funny, insightful and eye opening. It opens up a window into the life of someone who has Asperger's Syndrome. John Robinson shares his story in a no nonsense way, it's totally honest and makes no excuses. It was by far one of the easiest books for me to read. It flowed and kept my attention throughout, from beginning to end. It was sweet in a lot of ways and a bit shocking in others, but I was able to get a real sense of how many children and adults live their daily lives who are on the spectrum. John Robinson was really likable and its hard to believe he wasn't able to make many friends as you really can see his personality shine through. I loved seeing the interactions with his brother and how it changed over the years. If you have a child on the spectrum, know of a child on the spectrum, or even if you don't this is a great afternoon read. I received this book for free in return for my honest opinion, no compensation was received.
