These books are ingenious! Truly indestructible even by a wild 11 month old. These are great to throw in the diaper bag on the go and keeps her entertained on car rides as she can easily manipulate the book!**If you found this review helpful, please mark as helpful!

This book does not have any words in it, however the illustrations are amazing. My 10 month old son loves books and would try to walk around with the board books. Every time he fell he would end up scraping his chin with the board books, so I had to take them away during play time and we can only use them if he sits on my lap to read. These books may be crumpled and well used, but they are still kicking and safe for him to take from person to person to read to him. I feel safe leaving them in the playard with him if I have to step out of the room for a minute and know I won't return with him being hurt by the hard pages of the board books, and we certainly aren't ready for the paper pages in a regular book right now, since he is a rough and tumble little guy.

My 8 month old baby likes playing with these indestructible books. She is always trying to tear our real books and magazines and these books keep her preoccupied for a little while as she tries to tear and eat them (without success so far). She also likes looking at the pictures with us. I put them through the wash when I first got them and they came out a little wrinkled but intact. They are even more wrinkled now that baby's been playing with them. These are better than board books at this age because she is always trying to eat the board books which leads to soggy paper and cardboard in her mouth.

I really like this book. There are different vehicles on each page so a lot more for kids/babies to look and point at. The colors are much more vibrant than another indestructible book that we have, but is not extremely vivid.Like all indestructibles this book can be put thru the ringer with a child and I have no fear of finding pages torn and shredded up (or having to dig it out of my little ones mouth).

I was so excited to receive these books to see how they'd hold up to my 2 year old's wear and tear. I'm pleasantly surprised by how well it's done so far! I was surprised when we received it that it's such a thin book, but I think that goes along with the material that's used to make the pages and bypasses any binding that could be destroyed by little hands.

Found these books years ago when I was a nanny and I knew I had to buy some when I became a mom. We have probably 10 different titles and we love them all. They've held up to my babies constant abuse of crushing, folding, chewing, slobbering and more. The new brighter titles like the Things That Go! are fun for the baby again too. Overall I'm a big fan of these books and they are on my baby shower gift list. :)

These books are perfect for the “everything in the mouth” stage. The photos are vibrant and the book is soft and easy for little hands to navigate the pages. Personally I think the book has a better feel once been loved and wrinkled up. Easy to clean with a damp cloth and I’ve even washed ours in the sink with dish soap. I’d recommend them all!

Bought these for my newly turned one year old for Christmas. My husband opened the package and asked if I was really giving the baby such flimsy paper books. Well, the joke’s on him, because these have been drooled on, chewed on, walked on, and more, and they’re holding up just fine! I think they’re even better than board books (my toddler has destroyed quite a few board books). I would love to find some with more story to read, as opposed to pictures to name, but we will be adding to our collection nonetheless.

This ebook is a quick read and yet it's filled with tons of practical advice. In particular, the sample letters (to be sent to credit bureaus to have your negative credit records removed) are well written and clear; they will be easy to use. And the section that recommends ways to get and keep a good credit score includes lots of tips that were new to me. I actually laughed when I read "This might just seem like legal jargon to you right now" because it did! And then the author explained it all, and it all made sense.

Great read!!! Packed with information, tip just make sure you make plenty of copies of these letters once you write them out.

Really needed for this age and time where having credit is not enough, and having good credit is an absolute necessity

This is not a book, this is a pamphlet that can be read in a few minutes. It is poorly written, and gives poor advice. This 252-page large format book is a wonderful overview of the history, use and collection of Indian "trade blankets", the most famous of which are those made by Pendleton Woolen Mills. Although seemingly a coffee table book, it is also a good reference for many blanket patterns.From the earliest says of interactions between Europeans and Native Americans blankets played a major role in trans-cultural trade. The manufactured woolen blankets were thicker, warmer and more colorful than traditional Indian blankets laboriously made from woven animal hair. The colorful patterns became particularly important to the Indians who relied on the blankets as "robes" or overcoats for social occasions and ceremonies. The Indians draped the blankets over their shoulders and held them in place by clasping the edges together with one hand. Antique blankets that were actually used by an Indian will be heavily worn at the location where the edges were grasped.The trade blanket is a rare instance of a positive, mutually beneficial collaboration between European Americans and Native Americans. The Indians received a superior product that enhanced their lives and the Europeans responded by developing patterns derived from, but not really replicating, traditional Indian decorative themes. Pendleton still manufactures these blankets and nearly half are still purchased by Native Americans.The book contains 60 full-page or two-page color photographs of classic trade blankets, presumably from the collection of Dale Chihuly, the famous Seattle glass artist. There are also 24 classic black and white photographs that show Indians wearing trade blankets in the late 1800s and early 1900s. And there are large color photographs of wonderful trade blanket-inspired glass art Mr. Chihuly created.The text includes essays by Mr. Chihuly on collecting blankets and how the blankets influenced his art. There is also an essay by an historian on the history of the blankets, their manufacturers and trading them with the Indians from the 1600s to the present.Highly recommended to anyone interested in Native American history or folk arts in general. There is an outstanding image-keyed index to the blankets, classic photos and glass art.

Chiluly's Pendletons is an interesting book. It shows the early career of Dale Chiluly-who has become one of the pre-eminent artists in America. Chiluly's trademark is his flamboyent, contorted glassworks, which are displayed around the world.This book consists of two parts: The first part shows pictures of trade blankets. The second part shows how Chiluly incorporated ideas from his interests in Native American Arts into his early work...during his starving artists phase.Chiluly was interested fiber arts, he could not afford the expensive native American blankets; so he collected indian trade blankets...the most enduring trade blanket manufacturer being the Pendleton Woolen Mills. As his fame and fortune grew; so to did his collection.This is a very good book for people who wish to study how artists evolve in their work. You have a nice juxtaposition of indian art, photographs of native Americans, and pictures of Chiluly's earlier works.What the book is not: It is not an adequate scholarly treatise on trade blankets (it has a lot of nice pictures). The book shows his earlier works. These are all well done, but not quite as large and flamboyent as you might see in his later periods.All in all, I give the book high marks. Chiluly fans will enjoy this coffee table book. It helps you see the influences on this artist. It will also get you interested in trade blankets.

My comments to distinguish what this book plays in the world of contemporary art, is not my intent. Rather I wish to acknowledge the sheer beauty and aesthetic warmth I get from the pages of this large sized book by Dale Chihuly. The rich and colorful geometric patterns that record the decoration and simplicity of the Pendleton Blankets is understood and achieved with out the necessity of additional text in the images. The unpretentious or incidental record that these black and white photographs of the American Indian provide as a documentary technic blends well together with sheer beauty of the American Trade blanket designs. The enchantment and functional magic of glass with it's extraordinary range of form and color linking past to the present, is uniquely profound as well. Chihuly brings to this mix of history and art by acknowledging the reader to move effortlessly from textile to photography, to glass. As an artist, Chihuly takes the fundamental and intangible and blends each together in his truly extraordinary glass cylinders to enrich our eyes and spirit. It's quite simply, a beautiful book.

While Babushka is in Moscow winning a prize, the goose flies away, but she leaves one last egg in her basket. From it a gosling hatches that becomes Babushka's companion. The writing has a slightly mannered, fairy tale quality. It reads aloud well and is filled with love for the natural and sweetly supernatural miracles which take place. Vivid, extremely decorative paintings enhance and amplify the text. My little boy is absolutely in love with Canada geese, so I expected this to be a great hit. So it is! The winsome images in this book, colorful with geometrically designed painted eggs and elaborately detailed feathers on the slightly abstract bird, have captured his imagination. In contrast, Babushka's dear, lined face is softer and pencil drawn, surrounded by the clear stained-glass brilliance of her colorful quilts -- I think this may be how my child sees the universe anyway, and he tenderly embraced the characters and their quiet little story. I will note that he was jangled by the (offhand and off-camera) injury of the goose by a hunter before she came into Babushka's healing hands; we had just seen a children's movie in which a deer was slain by hunters, and so he was still full of that. Exceedingly sensitive kids will love this book, but expect that to be a talking point. :)

How sweet! I posted a picture on Facebook of some Ukrainian Easter eggs I have that must be 50 or more years old. They were made by a Ukrainian woman in our 'hood back then, who was waaaaay up in years. She died at over 100 years of age. Anyhoo, a couple of people mentioned "Rechenka's Eggs", which I'd never heard of. My friends at Amazon hooked me up with it, and now the book resides on display with the eggs.

Exceptional illustrations and ability to convey all that is humaneness - compassion, value of different kinds of losses and gains - in a relatively short story. I think this is a fantastic book to introduce very deep concepts about life to young kids. And certanly for childrens with Slavic roots in a multicultural household, this (and other Polacco books) is doubly priceless.

Many of the books written by this author carry the ring of truth as well as a life lesson. This one does not. Still, it is a solid piece of work. Just not the vastly superior work that this author usually provides.

Love this book, and especially Patricia Polacco’s art. I read this with my grandkids, and then we painted acrylic art pieces on small canvases of the beautiful eggs. Lovely art for 🐣 Easter!

Cute story! Although it is a Russian cultural story it is also Ukrainian. I learned about Pysanky (decorating Easter eggs with these intricate designs using wax) while staying in Ukraine.

I use this book every year in conjunction with a week of doing Pysanka eggs. After reading the book aloud, I show a youtube video of Polacco decorating an egg and talking about her reading difficulties as a youngster and memories of decorating eggs with family over the years. This is very empowering for students who have special needs.

Beautiful story and art. Kids were engaged reading it and picked this one as their favorite out of several Patricia Polacco books we read.

Although I did get something out of this book, it is really written for the reader who is already quite familiar with Buddhism and wants to know more about it's roots. The Sanskrit words and pronunciation were just too frustrating and I quit about 2/3 of the way through. Not really what I was looking for, which was a readable historical account of the Buddha and Buddhism for the uninitiated.

I bought this because I live in a Buddhist country and wanted to understand the foundations of their religion and culture a little more. I've had many conversations but wanted to piece it all together. I am having trouble getting through this book. The Author writes in a way that assumes the reader already knows terminology and things about Buddhism. Not a good read if you are starting from scratch because half of the vocabulary is unfamiliar to a non-Buddhist. I'm sure it's great if you already have a foundation, but it mostly just left me very confused.

It is quite a challenge to write a history of Buddhism, given the complex doctrinal diversification and the wide geographical and timeline spread. Andrew Skilton recognized the difficulty and set out to write a very readable concise history. He succeeded admirably in putting the doctrinal historical development within its geo-political context. He sticks to basic concepts, within the context of its development, and give references for further study of complex points.if you are - like me - lost in the erudite scholarship of Étienne Lamotte's or Heinrich Dumoulin's books, this work is a lot more enjoyable reading. It is concise, full of interesting facts, and very engaging. It's the only History of Buddhism book that I can't put down and have to read in almost one sitting! It is wonderful as an introductory History of Buddhism book. Thank you Dr. Skilton!

Not something you'd read for entertainment unless you're a masochist, but an essential text if you want to understand the broad outlines of how and why buddhism arrived in various places and took/takes the shape that it does.

This is a good book for beginners to intermediate students of Buddhism. It is good to have in library.

Thorough, concise and well written. A must for any aspiring Buddhist. Up to date. Read this if you want to know about the history of Buddhism and want something accurate and substantial without being too academic.

In Mr. Van Horn's reader review, he uses a "quote" which is nowhere to be found in the book. This is what Skilton actually says (pgs 67-68) about the brahma-viharas in the Theravadin tradition:"The Theravadin School developed a rather austere orthodoxy, epitomized in the works of the 5th century scholastic Buddhagohosa, especially in his Visuddhi-magga, which on a theoretical level tends to exclude doctrines and practices incompatible with its preferred preoccupations. An example of this exclusion might be the meditational practices called the brahma-viharas, which in its Abhidamma and commentarial literature are relegated to an ancillary function only, whereas its own canon records instances which substantially refute this role. Canonical passages frequently contain editorial additions "demoting" the brahma-viharas but, where parallel texts survive from the Mahasanghika canon, it is interesting to note that the latter did not feel any need to qualify such practices in that way."As you can see, Mr. Van Horn's characterization of this point is entirely incorrect, as is his assessment of the book on the whole. One wishes he would have asked himself why Skilton, a longtime Theravadin practitioner himself, would want to write a piece of "Mahayanist propaganda."In fact, Skilton's book is a commendably thorough, superbly written, extensively footnoted overview of the subject, with a firm grasp of the issues at hand. I could not recommend it more highly.

It has a couple inaccuracy due to changing and contested archaeological evidence. There is a lot of terminology in Sanskrit, Pali, etc. You can keep a Buddhist dictionary nearby. The Princeton one weighs about 5 pounds and is not complete. If you get the Kindle version and use it on a device with Internet access, you can highlight a word and do a google search which usually leads somewhere.

I really like this book as a supplement to additional learning options. Depends on an individual's learning style and whether or not you always have an electronic/internet connection when you want to do a little review or go to the next step. This works in "low tech" situations and is portable. That said, this is DESIGNED for people who are going to be traveling or such. Not intended nor designed as a replacement for bigger, more complex classroom textbooks and the like. It works well for what I wanted, but if you are expecting to be magically fluent in French when you get done, that's not going to be the case. It's particularly about building vocab with some "verb conjugation by osmosis" in reading and using the French sentences as the book goes along. The removable stickers for labeling common items around you to help get familiar with the vocab is good, as are the flash cards you can cut out and use, if those fit your learning style. The download for listening ON THE PC OR MAC only, is decent for hearing the spoken word, and I found it helpful. I would give this 5 stars (for its stated purpose as designed) if the download had been updated to be used on iPad or Android tablets in addition to the PC and Mac.

"French in 10 Minutes a day" is designed for the person who is self-motivated enough to devote at least ten minutes a day to the lessons and who is familar enough with the study of foreign languages to pick one up without outside coaching. The guide itself is highly portable and can be used anytime the student has the opportunity.The guide covers the basics of French in a self-paced manner. Dedicated study should enable the traveler to France, or French-speaking Quebec, to put together a basic vocabulary sufficient to read signs, menus, and other public displays, handle money, and to ask and answer simple questions. Conversational French might be a whole lot more challenging without additional training materials, classroom instruction, or practice with someone already familar with spoken French. French pronunciation isn't necessarily sound-it-out like some other languages. Use the digital download that comes with this manual.This guide is highly recommended to the beginner in French looking for a basic introduction to the language, and to the student with some pre-existing familarity with French who is looking for a refresher course.

I have at least eight of Ms. Kershul's books. The flashcards are handy to cut out and carry in a pocket or purse to thumb through in those small blocks of time that might otherwise be wasted. My husband and I were quizzing each other with the Chinese flashcards, and we acquired a new friend as a result! The labels keep the vocabulary words before my eyes. The menu page is useful if one does not want to lug the whole book in a suitcase. I love how the art in each book is specific to a place where that language is spoken. The pronunciation keys are a huge help, especially with a language with many silent letters, such as French. I have agreed with 99.9 percent of the pronunciation guides. The books are ideal for travelers, not students who want a deep grammatical analysis. However, Kershul's tools can be a springboard to more advanced studies. I like how she provides meanings of words, but only to a point. She will eventually remove the crutch when she feels the student should have mastered that word's definition. One possible limitation of the books might be that sometimes the dictionaries in the back are only one way, but that factor might depend on the publication year.

This text works very well for basic French. The pronunciation guide for each word is really useful for beginning learners. The text is written clearly and logically, and my class of children aged 9 - 13 (as well as their parents!) find it motivating and fun. The digital download is an added bonus, which the students love doing.

I am working diligently throught this book and finding it a excellent source for obtaining a practical grasp of francaise in a relatively brief amount of time. I think it is an excellent way to determine if you want to pursue learning more in the language as well as becoming ready for a trip.

Nice book in great condition, arrived very quickly but in essence, it's just another nice cookbook that puts some slightly out of date theories about metabolic syndromes to work in mostly interesting recipes. Not particularly 'Hawaiian" though, but after all the years of cultural fiddling that poor island group probably hasn't settled on just what "Hawaiian" means ay more. It's all too common in our mostly post-colonial world so what can you do?

I do like a lot of the recipes. .Makes it to where you eat healthier, to turn back a lot of different health issues. Like weight gain, high blood pressure, etc..

Good recipes but some of the ingredients are not available where I live.

I like the recipes. I received it in decent condition.

I found it difficult to acquire the ingredients from this book on the mainland. They are either non-existant here or very expensive if they are available.

It's ok, but not for a vegan.
