Keith Carter holds the Endowed Walles Chair in Fine Arts at Lamar University and is the recipient of a 2009 Texas Medal of Arts Award. I am a Kieth Carter fan, but I can honestly say that this is truly an outstanding photography book. It is a compendium of 50 years of Carter's work. If you have other of his books you have probably seen many of these photos, but to have so many in one book and so large a format makes this book more that desirable for a collection.A little plug for Amazon here: I like the pre-order deal where you order before release date at a specific price, and if it goes lower before it is shipped you pay the new lower price, but if the price at release is higher you are only charged at the lower pre-order price. I pre-ordered this book from Amazon a month before it was released for $29.00. It is now about $41 on release and has an MSRP price in the dust jacket at $65.

It cost me $58 to buy the book but I only got $31 in return. Had I known that I would have kept the book & sold it myself! Bad show Amazon.

I’m a big fan of Keith’s photos, and this book is a great consummate volume of his work. I generally like the content, sequencing and introduction texts. Having said that, I feel a certain level of disappointment with this particular execution. The major issue that I see is in this book layout - some prints are stretched across two pages and sometimes with main subject in the gutter – for the book of this size that layout should not be used. Further, it seems that the publisher used different toning across the book without any specific context - some photos are extremely warm toned, others – cold. This is quite noticeable and disturbing, especially for the differently toned prints on the same page spread. Because of the above, this is not my favorite of Keith’s book in my small collection. I hope to see more!

This compilation of Carter’s work is brilliantly presented. Anyone who is already familiar with Carter’s work will be presently surprised by its presentation. Additionally, the essays provide an insightful view on the value of Carter’s career.

A truly amazing body of work that is filled with humanity and genius.

Zen priest Shunryu Suzuki-roshi was one of the most influential Zen teachers of his time. His teachings flow from the Soto lineage of Zen Buddhism, founded by Dogen Zenji (1200–1253) in thirteenth-century Japan. Some of his edited talks have been collected in the books Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind and Not Always So.The Gitter-Yelen Art Study Center is dedicated to the study of Japanese art and American self-taught art. This private nonprofit foundation promotes appreciation and knowledge of the two art traditions through exhibitions and public programs.

Be warned this is Very Short, at only 19 pages it is just a bite to get you involved in the plot-line and begin the next book, but it is worth it.This was well written, the situation felt entirely plausible and best of all the characters feel like those we know and love. This short is a prequel to The Darcy’s of Pemberley Book 1 of three books by Shannon Winslow.I almost didn't review this because it was so short. Also, I didn't feel that I could give the same number of stars that I would give a full book. I liked it and 3-stars says I liked it.I suppose the title sort of gives it away. We are at Hunsford Parsonage and Mr. Collins is enjoying his dinner [one that he finagled out of Lady Catherine], when he suddenly remembers his appointment with his patroness. So, after stuffing one more mouth full, he jumps up and… the rest they say, is history. It was a very short window of time. The story also carried over into the next book in Winslow’s series. This prequel story went into more depth and explained what happened in order to answer the questions posed in the following book.“Born merely for the purpose of digestion” Jean de la Bruyere

Perhaps this is not spectacular literature, but it is full and satisfying for Austen fans who yearn to see beyond the written territory to the logical extension of the characters' roles. This short story hooked me on Winslow's vision. The story plays out the lines started in Pride and Prejudice. I have been in the habit of replaying the 1995 A&E Pride and Prejudice DVDs on Saturday evenings and the sequels continue the characters' lives very handily. I found out what happened to Collins and Charlotte. I just had to see what else was in store. Winslow is very respectful of the Austen legacy and I am grateful for this. The Kindle price cannot be beaten either.

The only reason this is 4 stars instead of 5 is that it is so short. But the language and the portrayal of the characters is perfect. I had the picture of David Bamber (the Mr. Collins actor in the 1995 movie version) as he is stuffing his breakfast into his mouth while Lizzy prepares to take her morning walk. JUST AN EXCELLENT interpretation of how he reaches his demise. And also very well written as to how he obtained that leg of mutton to begin with - justice is served.The only sad part is how Mrs. Collins' view of marriage is now forever tainted by her "settling" for a safe marriage rather than one of love!This was a very short read but well worth it.

Mr. Collins is that annoying guy at work who pops up next to you when you least expect him. He lies in wait for you outside of the restroom, conference room or copy room. Sarcasm aside, nothing you say can offends him. Perhaps because he never hears you as he is thinking ahead to next thing he needs to say. After meeting his wife at the company picnic or holiday party, you realize she is happy to escape him and schmooze with the other guests. The only events that will remove him from your side are the offer of free food or the arrival of upper management. He never wastes an opportunity to try to curry favor there.

Mr. Collins is the least liked person in the Pride and Prejudice story. "Not the cleverest of men," as Jane said to Elizabeth, "but he is respectable." This is a quote from Pride and Prejudice. Mr. Collins was a thorn in everyone's flesh while being a man of the cloth. It is sad that he met such a demise, but we can blame it on Lady De Bourge who gave them the leg of lamb. I don't recommend it, but it was a bit interesting if you are really interested how Charlotte must have sighed relief for $.99 on my kindle.

If you cringed at the behavior and attitude of Mr. Collins in Pride and Prejudice, you will enjoy this short story. If you wondered at all how Charlotte would endure being wife to such a man, pick up this story.I enjoyed reading this short story very much. I found the dialog and lingo well done and very similar to the classic. There were a few spots where the text seemed too close to the original, but I'm OK with that.This quick read will give you a good look at the author's writing style. Shannon Winslow has written other Jane Austen style books. I enjoyed this short and will read more from this author in the future.

Sometimes we have to make decisions in our life that we may not be excited about, butif you follow what you believe to be right, you can receive a blessing. I think that is what happenedto our friend Charlotte! She felt she didn't have many choices of a husband, so chose who shethought would be tolerable, and she could make happy, and be content herself. She did a very goodjob....and received in the end, a blessing to her life.LOVED IT!!Vicki T.

I implore every one of my test prep students to practice, practice, practice. In order for them to succeed, not only do they need good instruction, but also they need good material to supplement that instruction. I can confidently assign work from The Tutorverse's SHSAT book knowing that my students will exercise the lessons learned during session. Each question is carefully written and has a detailed answer explanation in the back of the book. With over 1,000 practice questions, this book compiles the key concepts tested by the SHSAT (updated to reflect the 2017-18 changes!). There's a diagnostic test at the beginning of the book and a practice test at the end so each student can trace her progress, and with regular practice aided by The Tutorverse's book, I'm sure she will be happy with the results. I know I have been.

Pros: I've looked through the official handbook released in june by the doe and must say that the questions in this book are quite similar to those in the handbook. The book is really useful for helping students practice different topics, especially for students who need an introduction of more practice in those areas.Cons: since the doe released their official handbook, I see even more how accurate the content is, but the book does need to update their practice tests to reflect the abcd/efgh multiple choice options. Also, the grid in math questions are at the beginning, not the end. I've had the book since April, so I can only assume they'll update, though these are minor.

In my 12 years of classroom teaching and private tutoring, I have purchased countless test prep books. I know what I like and don’t like in a test prep book and I absolutely LOVE this one!The diagnostic in the beginning is a full-length test which is a wonderful way to introduce students to the format of the actual SHSAT exam. Answers with detailed explanations are provided, as well as the question’s topic so students and tutors can gauge strengths and weaknesses.In lieu of pages of “lessons” (that are usually neither student-friendly nor comprehensive in test prep books), the authors packed 250+ pages with test-like questions organized by the same topics from the diagnostic answer key so students and tutors can decide which areas to focus on. All the grammatical and mathematical rules, formulas, and test-taking strategies needed to be successful are clearly explained.With over 1,000 practice questions, comprehensive explanations, expert advice, and practice exams (which accurately reflect the 2017 redesign), this book has it all!

After we had exhausted all the other test prep books, we got this one for a little extra practice... And it was great. Lots of questions, in all the categories. Great book. Now we just have to wait til March for my son's score!

One of the few editions I could find on short notice this summer that includes the new poetry passages that will be on the exam in October 2018.

As an English Teacher who works with students practicing for the SHSAT test, I am always looking for supplementarymaterial to use with my students. Tutor verse serves that purpose. It is a well-organized, easy to use text that isgeared to the skills needed for the test. I recommend this book. Further, I was impressed with the customer service representative who was truly helpful in resolving a problem I raised. The company wants you to be satisfied with their product and you will be.
