#375,339 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

Written at a high school level, this book allegedly about the 1918 flu finishes its presentation of that pandemic at only the 52% mark, and spends the next 48% taking repeated and thinly veiled swipes at the Trump administration and spouting global warming as the biggest danger facing the world today. Without bothering to explain why, and with only a couple of brief and seemingly unconnected quotes from other authors on the 1918 flu, this author has concluded that climate change is a greater health risk for future pandemics than randomly mutating virus strains, lack of sanitation in third world countries, insufficient funding for vaccine research or any other contributing factor. Same song, different verse. Basically, we've reached the point in non-fiction books where it doesn't really even matter what particular problem we're discussing, there has to be some connection, however tenuous, to climate change thrown into the text for good measure. It's the imprimatur of modern liberal thought. And it's very tiresome. Skip this one, folks. There are at least four other books on the 1918 flu that are more worthy of your time.

The book contains interesting factual information. There is as much, or more, information about the first World War than there is about the epidemic, although the spread of the disease through army camps is an essential element of the epidemic. The author's concluding paragraphs contain some information which one might debate---such as global warming, for instance, that hardly seems relevant.

I heard about this book on Sirius XM channel 124. I pre- ordered a copy. I learned so much about WWI that I had forgotten or just didn’t know, and was surprised how disease can affect the outcomes of war.

Well written and fascinating. And kind of scary.

Any book by Kenneth C Davis is great.Great Book!!

Interesting

More Deadly Than War is a fascinating, informative, and page-turning account of the intersection between the Spanish Flu and World War I. I knew little about both topics and learned so much due to the author's accessible writing and generous inclusion of photos. This book also features an excellent appendix that covers a brief history of disease and medicine in general.I would highly recommend this book to both adults (which I am) and young adults.
