I absolutely loved this book. It began me on a series that I am still enjoying. While I have enjoyed them all this first book is still one of my favorites because the character of Eidolon is so incredibly perfect. Smart, sexy and loves his brothers - how can you not love this book? It begins a world of Underworld General Hospital and each book connects the characters. I love how old characters continue to return in later books. It is just so much fun. I hope she keeps writing in this world because I am hooked!

A very interesting world within the world tale this author has woven. As with most series, it takes a little to understand what makes up this world and the characters within it. But once the reader begins to comprehend this demon world within the human world and delves into the character make ups and conflict, you can't help but become immersed in the storyline. Eidolon had me from the start. Tayla....she had to grow on me. There are so many intriguing beings running around the hospital that it is easy to see many storyline spring boarding from this. Nice start

Liked it better first time. Granted, I've read it, not listened, like this time, and it was . I can't put a finger on what went south this time but I don't think audio version is the only reason. Demonica series were the highest bar for me. Almost nothing compared. At least in paranormal genre. This time around I was a bit disappointed. In characters, chemistry, overall storyline. It just wasn't a thrill and fun ride as I remember and I couldn't immers myself in this imaginary world completely. As I have a feeling I may be a bit harsh on this book and this review could be influenced by my life situation, I will certainly read/listen book two and revise this review accordingly. This is book one after all and life happens. Regardless of my general feeling/opinion for this book, Demonica world is one of the best one I enjoyed and it deserves a place on everyone's book shelf. That said, immersion try 2 will commence immediately.

In the face of so many glowing reviews, I guess I expected to be blown away by this book, but really? I wasn't. Not that I didn't like it, because I did, but it didn't have an "OMG, WOW!" factor for me that it seems to have had for others. Maybe it's because I mostly had to read it in short snippets over several days, I dunno, but nothing here really left my jaw hanging or anything.One thing that keeps me from being totally wow'd by this book is the heroine, Tayla. For the most part, I didn't really like her. She's supposed to be a badass demon slayer, and she is, at least in terms of fighting ability and talent, but her attitude seems kind of off, especially since she's also supposed to be a loyal soldier of the Aegis. It's clear almost from the start though that she has some attitude problems, and isn't necessarily as loyal as she pretends to be. She withholds information from them about her "condition", which she has no idea what's wrong with her, just that she has something going on that causes "seizures" that debilitate her suddenly and with little or no warning. Clearly this is something her superiors should know about if they're sending her out in the field, but she keeps quiet, because she doesn't trust them to not find a way to eliminate her and thus eliminate a liability if they find out. Actually, trust issues are her main attitude problem all around, and her defense mechanisms cause her to be more than a little arrogant, full of bravado, and downright rude for little or no reason many times. She's also not above smacking the hand that feeds her, as witnessed by her treatment of Eidolon as well as her mistrust of the Aegis members she works with. Though she does have some legitimate reasons for being mistrustful of others, she takes it to ridiculous lengths, refusing to give some people a chance even when they've been nothing but kind and helpful toward her just because of who or what they are.In contrast to the hard-to-like heroine, Eidolon is a truly likeable hero. For all that he's a demon, is on the verge of a transformation that will likely turn him into a true monster, he's really a gentle and kind soul that just happened to be born on the wrong side of the good/evil line. We see this right from the beginning when Tayla is brought into his hospital. He has every reason to turn her away because of what she is, but he doesn't, and he even protects her from his brothers and others who want to torture her for information on the Aegis and then kill her. He's not a total or true pacifist though, for even he is apt to fly into a murderous rage under the right circumstances, and we also see examples here and there of how his morals can be pretty flexible on some issues, including being largely indifferent to some things that most (on the good side anyway) would be repulsed or at least offended by. Mostly though he's able to keep a cool head through any crisis or turmoil, and this, combined with his extensive patience and tolerance where Tayla and her actions are concerned, is a lot of what makes the book work and makes it an enjoyable read.Given the nature of the seminus demons, I don't think you can really review this book (or likely any in the series) without touching on the sex, and I have to admit that most of it is pretty hot. Ione does a great job at building and portraying sexual tension not just as a lead up to sex, but also during the numerous times when Tayla and Eidolon are seriously lusting after one another but refusing to give into the urges. The sex isn't really what took center stage here though, for the rich descriptions, tangible emotions, and intricately layered plot are what really captured my interest. I particularly liked how the author kept the focus on the immediate problems the characters were trying to overcome and solve, but then once they had, gave us just a few glimpses at how what they were dealing with was truly just the surface of a much deeper plot, one that shows signs of perhaps being aimed against demons and Aegis alike. Some authors would have been hinting at the deeper layers all along, which likely would have just distracted from the immediate problems that needed to be solved, and so I liked that Ione didn't overwhelm us with too much depth all at once, but rather let us chew our way through the crust before letting us get a glimpse of how much more lay beyond what had been dealt with.Fans of paranormal romance, especially those with a good bit of steam, will enjoy this book I'm sure. There's a little something for everyone with the inclusion of demons of many varieties, vampires, shifters, and possibly a few things we haven't encountered yet. This is one I'd definitely recommend, and I'll be looking forward to continuing the series.

Milton Magness, D. Min., MA, LPC, CSAT, is the founder and director of Hope & Freedom Counseling Services. A Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Sex Addiction Therapist, he served five terms as the president of the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health (SASH), the international professional organization for sexual addiction therapists. Prior to becoming a therapist he was a pastor for twenty years. He has a Doctor of Ministry from Luther Rice Seminary, a Master of Arts in Psychology from Houston Baptist University, and Master of Arts in Religious Education from Southwestern Seminary. Read this one first. It is packed with the best information for sexual addicts. It is organized in such a way to make it easy to refer back to. Excellent information for your spouse that, in turn, can help you understand what your spouse is going through. This book includes more success stories than I’ve ever seen in any other book. I’ve read most all of them.

I've read dozens of books on sex addiction. This is the best one yet - packed with the latest research and practical tools for recovery. A must read!

Preliminary report on Milton Magness's new book, Real Hope True Freedom...it's good. It has a comprehensive overview on the origins and mechanisms of addiction, sex addiction as a subset, a description of what he believes is the best model for recovering addicts and excellent guidance for spouses. Much of the book is formatted in question and answer style, questions gleaned from interviews with spouses and addicts. I haven't finished the second half, that's the part that talks about rebuilding relationships.The book is coauthored by Marsha Means, a cowriter of Your Sexually Addicted Spouse, a book that discounts the coaddiction model and explains tha trauma is really at the root of the partner's behavior after discovery. That alone makes her a goddess in my mind.There is nothing new here. But it is organized in a way that is useful and succinct. It descibes best practices and common sense in a way that is logical. Much of the book is formatted in Q&A form, and answers questions we all have had as we navigate this trauma.Definitely worth your time and money.I'll report on the second half asap.

This is the book I give to individuals and couples just starting their journey on dealing with sex addiction. Yes, I actually give it to them … the book is that good. I am a licensed counselor with a specialty in helping individuals and couples dealing with sex addiction and provide regular types of therapy as well as Three Day Intensive therapy. Who is Real Hope True Freedom good for? Persons newly diagnosed with sex addiction, partners and spouses, and couples dealing with sex addiction. There are two primary strengths of this book that make it ideal as a primer for individuals first starting to deal with and understand sex addiction. 1. Magness and Means use straightforward language and don't get bogged down with jargon. In a short period of time people will pick up the jargon, but initially they need information, and they need it fast! The straight talk is coupled with the second strength. 2. The book is well organized by topic and subtopics, and the table of contents is a great guide for taking you to the specific spot where you need to be to get the information you are looking for. You want information on psychological risk factors for sex addiction? Page 22. You want to know about denial and self-deception? Page 46. You want to know how to start dealing with a husband with sex addiction? A big section starts on page 103. This book might be the definitive book to start when you have no idea where to start.

This is the best book on Sex addiction you can get. I have read many and none have been written as well as this. I especially appreciate the point of view that the partner of the addict is not a co- addict. Many books told me that I had a part in or was in some way responsible for my husband's addiction. Magness and Means approach the partner in a way that helped me heal instead of wounding me further.

I have read this book more times than I can count. I have utilized it in management and leadrship training courses than I have conducted at many companies in many various industries. Problably have purchased many hundreds for class participants. This is the book for everyone in every type of entity or organization from the CEO to the beginning employee. This book will open the eyes for all of us who think we know how to work with people. Buy it and study it. It is written in language everyone can understand. Light reading of a heavy topic.

This is my go-to book for understanding and explaining management concepts. It was given to me by someone in the industrial psychology field when I was a young new manager and it helped to form my management style. I have given the book away many times, particularly to those who are placed in a management role without any management training, typically because they are the longest on the job. Not everyone can manage others well, but when that potential is there, this book will help them to see themselves as a leader and lead. The key element discussed in this book is communication and it gives great examples of times we think we have communicated but we have missed critical elements. It also is the book that offered the revelation that a "boss" is a significant other in the lives of those they supervise. I highly recommend this for new and seasoned managers as a quick and easy enlightening read.

This is a brief, but very informative book about: (1) how managers can better understand why employees are not doing their job duties properly or effectively, and (2) how managers can use that better understanding to carry out their managerial responsibilities more effectively.The book: (1) provides a framework for managers to evaluate improper or inadequate job performance; (2) identifies 16 reasons why employees are not performing their job tasks properly or adequately; (3) gives concrete examples to explain and illustrate the 16 reasons; (4) compares and contrasts some of the 16 reasons that appear to overlap with other reasons; (5) offers possible solutions for each of the 16 reasons; and (6) presents a good argument for why managers need to engage in "preventive management" rather than react to performance problems after they occur.One especially good aspect of the book is that its analysis and discussion can be applied to the evaluation of the performance of managers themselves, not just the performance of the employees being managed or supervised. I hate business books. They are generally impractical and pretentious. In order to puff them up to 300 pages, they start with three chapters of the authors talking about themselves and why and how they wrote the book, then one chapter that makes whatever point they want to make, then more three chapters talking about how much their method will help you.This little book does none of that. It's points are clear, suggestions are practical, and it doesn't waste your time.I've been using it to train Managers, both new and experienced, for over 10 years and it has proven its worth time and again. It is the ONLY "business" book I recommend.

To agree is not necessary in all cases but in most cases I do agree with conclusions reached and solutions offered. These are generally the bible of gun values. I use mine often. Just got the new 2019 today, Dec 18th, 2018. Of the first four guns I checked out, the Index lists the wrong page for three of them. For example, Winchester Model 101, Index lists it as page 1439. Nope, actually it's page 1432. S&W M&P VTAC, Index says 1135. Nope. Page 1128. Lots more examples! It's close, several pages off, but sheesh! C'mon guys! I paid a lot of money for this. Doesn't anyone proof-read anymore? I'd recommend saving your money and buying the 2019 Second Edition which I imagine will be reprinted soon! I'll be expecting my free copy.

I have this edition of this book in hard copy, as well as three prior editions going back forty years. I consider it an essential practical reference in connecting the electrical code to practical electrical work. My criticism is in the way the Kindle edition is set up.I am moving away from physical books at work, due to a 5s directive against keeping a personal reference library at work. I bought the Kindle edition, and have been reading it the last month. I am pleased in many ways with the Kindle version, but find it obnoxious that the index isn't hyperlinked. Other cross references throughout the text are. I'm not sure why this is, but this omission is serious as the location in a Kindle text cannot be correlated to a page number in a printed book.

This book is SCIENTIFIC as all get out.It is not for beginning electricians looking for simple code references or techniques.It is one of the most dense and comprehensive data catalogs I've ever owned.One day I hope to understand what at least 1/4 of it is talking about...

If you'er trying to get your Journeyman or Master Electrical license then you must get this book PERIOD!

I bought this solely for taking the Masters exam because I was told there is questions on the exam from this book as well as the NEC. This book is difficult to navigate, more so than the NEC, I did find that the questions that are on the Maters exam ,that are in this book, you should and probably already know If you're an experienced electrician. The trick to getting around in it is the index. It does have a ton of useful information in it and it's cool to have around as an electrician but if you're buying this as an electrical installation manual please don't and seek proper training.

This has since proved not to be true.

Robert Kaplan describes the South China Sea as being “as central to Asia as the Mediterranean is to Europe.” He discusses the impact of a powerful China on the countries bordering the Sea. China believes that almost the entire Sea belongs to them, and they have plenty of old maps to support their claim. China is on the rise and it is starting to throw its weight around. China has indicated that it would like the US military to pull-out of Asia and it seems to have aspirations to become a regional hegemon. China's behavior has triggered a regional arms race and Kaplan is predicting that South East Asia will become less stable. Kaplan does not believe that a war between China and the United States is inevitable, it depends on how the US responds. He wants the US to accept a smaller role in the region and suggests that America may have to rethink its Asian strategy.Kaplan does a good job explaining the issues. Firstly, the South China Sea is an important waterway. More than half of the world’s annual merchant fleet tonnage passes through the region. Secondly, it contains a lot of oil and China is desperate for new energy. Chinese oil reserves account for only 1.1% of the world total, while it consumes over 10% of world oil production. China believes the South China Sea contains more oil than any area of the globe except Saudi Arabia. Some Chinese observers have called the South China Sea “the second Persian Gulf.” Thirdly, China is seeking an Asian version of the Monroe Doctrine, and believes in “Asia for the Asians.” Fourthly, the future of the region depends on whether the US is willing to pull-back and allow China to expand its power and influence.Kaplan believes the South China Sea is to China what the Greater Caribbean was to the United States in the 19th and early 20th centuries. He argues that the United States became a great power, geopolitically, by dominating the Caribbean. He claims that the Europeans departed the Caribbean allowing the US to dominate it. He suggests that the US should consider reciprocating in the South China Sea. “American officials…must be prepared to allow, in some measure, for a rising Chinese navy to assume its rightful position, as the representative of the region’s largest indigenous power.”Kaplan has this back-to-front. The US did not chase Britain out of the Caribbean. Britain had several sugar colonies in the region and possessed the world’s largest navy. It maintained several naval bases and in 1895 it could deploy forty-four battleships to America’s two. Its ships went where they wanted, like the US today. America still thought of Britain as its major geopolitical rival at Bretton Woods in 1944. Like Britain in the Caribbean, the US has no intention of pulling out of the South China Sea.The US has maintained a military edge over its rivals since WW2 because of its superior technology. Most "experts" in the media advise us that for the foreseeable future, China’s military is no match for America’s. The US Navy still relies on 11 very expensive, but increasingly vulnerable aircraft carriers to police the oceans. However, China has been developing capabilities specifically designed to counter America’s power in the Pacific. The Economist reports that for over two decades China has been investing in submarines, air defense systems, ballistic missiles, and advanced cyber capabilities. The aim is to make it too dangerous for America’s carriers to operate close to China. The Economist suggests that the US may find it difficult to win a war in the South China Sea. After all, the US fought China during the Korean War and the result was a draw.The US has been the hegemonic power in Asia since WW2, but it now has a rival. America assumes the right to send its ships close to the Chinese mainland, and China views this as intimidation. Kaplan believes that the US is in relative decline, while China’s military power will continue to grow. He concludes that America will either have to change the way it operates in the South China Sea, or risk war.The US does not have many good options. Many of the states in the region depend on the United States for diplomatic and military support. It will be difficult to run away, as Ian Bremmer has advocated. Kaplan is hopeful that China will become a benign regional hegemon and won’t pose a threat to its neighbors. Kaplan is optimistic about China, he claims that China “however truculent, is no Imperial Japan.”
