This is the first in the series. It is so good, I couldn't believe it. I couldn't put it down, and I'm a grandma! Adults will enjoy this thoroughly. Got it and the 2nd one in the series for a birthday present for my grand-daughter. I also got the audio CD's for both to accompany them with the narrator as Jim Dale. He is probably the best narrator you will ever hear. Audio along with a physical book is a good idea as the child can read along & hear the story at the same time. It teaches them to read faster, and develops the brain also.

I've been a huge fan of Peter Pan for a long as I can remember and this series answered one question for me that anything else written had yet to answer. How does a baby, who states he left his home the day he was born live in a place where he is not supposed to age, but ages anyway? Well, this book fully answered that question as well as gave an interesting new take on how Peter Pan came to be. I randomly found this book after reading The Child Thief and thought it would be fun to go on a Peter Pan kick since I am using the movie in my ELL class so we can talk about the idea of wanting to remain a child. I will be able to use parts of this book in the lesson, but more than anything, this book was a fun read.

I want to start by saying if you have listened to Jim Dale read the Harry Potter books, THIS BOOK IS A MUST for you. The book is certainly aimed at children. By at age 28 I still deeply enjoyed this book & you should too. This is a fantastic backstory to Peter Pan. I dont want to spoil any of the plot, but just know that it has a cast of characters that you will love & care about. Thank you Jim Dale for such a great read, you are the best!

I've been a fan of Dave Barry's humor column since it was still in print, so I decided to get this book to read to my kids. I couldn't put it down and read it to them in less than a month (over 400 pages!). I found myself wanting to read ahead when the kids weren't available to listen. Action, humor, and a well-developed storyline are all present from the first chapter. I'll be purchasing the next one in this series.

I loved the premise for this series, and once I came to know the award-winning Broadway show, I thought I'd finally get around to reading the first book. It's a very clever origin story, told through the perspective of several central characters - not just Peter. There are some twists and turns, but mostly there is a lot of heart. Even the coldest of characters have traits you come to love. It's an easy, quick read. Sometimes it just feels good to sit down and read something that flows with a vivid and assured pace. This story never slows down and leaves you wanting more. I just bought the second book!

BEST BOOK SERIES I'VE EVER READ!!!!!!I love this entire series. I swear, I could read it over and over and over and never get tired of it! The story goes that Peter is an orphan, going on a ship with basically pixie dust, if pixie dust did more than just make people fly. Along the way, he encounters some characters like a pirate, named Black Stache but soon to become Captain Hook, and Molly. I've never read the classic Peter Pan, but from the dedication, it sounded like a prequel to Peter Pan. And there is so much I love about this entire series that all I can really say is read it yourself and either agree or disagree with me that these books are awesome.

Peter and the Starcatchers is a very inventive, fun book for any age. if you've seen the Broadway play and expect it the book the be exactly like it, you might be disappointed... or you might like it just as much, as I did. the language is in keeping with a book from Barrie's time, tho not as overtly formal. the characters, especially Capt. Stache, are sometimes a bit over the top, but that's just more fun for me. Each of the short chapters ends with a bit of a cliffhanger, so they're perfect for reading before bedtime with children. You just want to read on and on! Molly is a great heroine (Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson both said they wrote this book for their daughters, so Molly is a strong heroine). Peter is clever and brave, and you can certainly see how he becomes Pan. Some of the violence in the latter half of the book took me a bit by surprise - the sharp-toothed "mermaids," pirates and Slank clubbing the children, etc. but, you know, that's what pirates did back then and Peter Pan had its own violence. I love a good swash and a bit of buckle, as Black Stache says in the stage show, so i found this book quite good. you also get lovely "back stories," like how the crocodile began to tick, how Hook lost his hand, and where John Darling got his top hat. That part almost made me cry.

I became a Peter Pan fan while reading this book. I love the authors' take on his origin. I also gave this book to my son's Language Arts tutor for Christmas. He was thrilled to know she loves to read it and it has become a favorite for her too.

As a priest, this one gave me a much-needed, high-level perspective on what it means to walk beside someone discerning the will of God and, therefore, what it means to discern the will of God for oneself. This book has more deeply impacted my day-to-day ministry than any other in recent memory.

A good manusl for spiritual directors

Gallagher's most recent volume is the clearest, most concise and generally most comprehensive basic outline I've read of Ignatius' entire system of discernment and how its different parts fit together in a single process. While I'd recommend his previous books on each set of Ignatius' twin rules of discernment as more readable and more helpful explanations in their own rights, I have no doubt I'll be returning to this monograph frequently. Either as a primer or as a reference to reinforce Ignatius' grammar of discernment, "A Handbook for Spiritual Directors" earns its highly practical, functional title and deserves its spot on any spiritual director's shelf.

After having read it virtually from cover to cover, I can now say with a high degree of certainty that this must be one of the best books for Introduction to Psychology that I can imagine.Each chapter of this book is filled with useful and relevant anecdotes and other things that help to lead the reader into understanding the concepts portrayed by Gleitman and his fellow authors in the book.Also, the online accompaniment with quizzes and chapter summaries is a major help in studying for the exam, and the Study Guide: for Psychology, Eighth Edition is a phenomenal tool to use in conjunction with this book because it distills all the information down to what you just need to know.

I bought this book from amazon for my fundamentals of psychology class. The book is much more detailed than the Myers edition also commonly used for psych intro classes and the writing seems much more professional, whereas the Myers edition is a little more humorous and witty.Being that it is much more comprehensive you get a lot more out of it and it serves as a really good introduction and foundation of the topics studied in psychology. Purchased for a class at Troy University during my undergraduate studies and then sold (as most textbooks are) once finished with it. During my graduate studies I realized that much of this information was still pertinent and useful as sources so I am looking to purchase it all over again once I find it at a reasonable price. This is a very informative book and an easy read.

Read this whole text for introductory psychology. I loved the book overall. It is very concise and easy to read. The authors refer to many studies that illustrate concepts being discussed throughout the book. In addition, important terms are defined both in the text and on page margins which is very helpful. Great text.

Each chapter contains the biological basis at work, because, as the authors so beautifully put it "we aren't just minds; we are minds embodied."This book is for the serious student; the dabbler, and those whose understanding of psychology is limited to pop psych-type self-help, psycho-babble will be bored.An outstanding, scholarly work worthy of reading.

This rather intimidating-looking book was required for my course so I had to buy it, but I'm actually enjoying reading it. What could be dry material is livened up with humor and real-life examples that make these essential concepts easy to learn.

Enjoyed reading most of it actually, one of the better written textbooks.

Landscape Drawing in Pencil Frank M Rimes I didn't find this book very helpful. I appreciate this author's approach via presenting a picture and then discussing qualities, problems, solutions etc. But in the sketchy (no pun intended) way he does it here, it is more like a lesson in drawing his specific picture(s). I don't consider myself a REAL artist so maybe the fault is mostly mine. But I still cannot recommend this book to anyone.

Obviously, given that it is an art instruction book, this volume contains numerous illustrations. These illustrations are in landscape page view, not portrait. The kindle cannot cope with this. It turns the landscape pages on their side so if you are viewing on Kindle for PC, you are viewing all images at a rotation of 90 degrees.Amazon really should not be selling art books on kindle until and unless they improve the kindle so that (a) images display as in the book, which means that on Kindle for PC the page width needs to be widened, and (b) it is possible to view in colour. Further, it is essential that art books be viewable properly on Kindle for PC because the small size of other Kindles renders them intrinsically unsuitable for displaying art books.

It's good if you want reference images with barely any words written about the picture. Most pictures contain only slight words on shading being darker there or lighter here, but not much else. No instruction on how to recreate any of the beautiful sketches for ourselves. It's great for reference, like I said, but it just wasn't what I was expecting-But that wasn't necessarily a bad thing. I read through it and I realized that step-by-step books can only teach so much. But a book like this-one that tells you how to create different textures then illustrates them for you to see and study closely-teaches you more than you'd think possible by just looking at pictures.Makes you slow down and think about what you need to do to create what you want. It's perfect in that, as well as showing some beautiful artwork with techniques a bit dated, but not bad at all.

Note that this is originally from 1929, and the language definitely reflects that.This book doesn't seem to know its audience. The author states this book isn't for beginners, but then covers very beginner pencil techniques, and then jumps directly to very advanced, completed drawings. There is a short paragraph discussing how each drawing was made, but if you understand that paragraph, you don't need the book. A more step-by-step approach would have been infinitely preferable.

It isn't quite what I expected, more of an overview of very basic drawing techniques and then straight into overviews of completed drawings. There really isn't any discussion of suggestions for the beginner on different ways to draw common objects found in landscapes.

This is not a book for beginners. As the author states in the introduction, it is aimed at students who have had some training and experience drawing and have some knowledge of freehand perspective. It is meant “to arouse an interest in the art of pencil technique, especially as it pertains to out of door subjects.” The book was originally published in 1929. The technique referred to is the now all-but-forgotten technique of broad stroke drawing or pencil painting where “each stroke is made in some definite direction, and then left that way...” Other proponents of this technique include Theodore Kautzky (“The Ted Kautzky Pencil Book”), Earnest W. Watson (“The Art of Pencil Drawing”), Ferdinand Petrie (“Drawing Landscapes in Pencil”) and Carl Purcell (“Drawing with Your Artist's Brain”). The strength of this book is in the 22 finished drawings reproduced of a size and quality allowing study of the various strokes used in their creation. A succinct description is provided with each explaining a particular problem solved in the drawing. If you appreciate this type of drawing and are looking for samples to study, this is one of the few books available that is dedicated to the technique.

Only a good book if you are interested in reading a book by an arrogant person who claims (quite literally many times in the first couple chapters) that his style is the only style that is worthwhile. Then there are sketches at the end with no instruction. As a matter of fact, he says in the beginning it would be unethical to copy his masterpieces. Find a different Landscape book.

Just plates of completed work. Simple, high-level points discussed, but no step-by-step instruction or approaches to drawing landscapes.

If you've read "BAT-21" or "The Rescue of Streetcar 304" or any other book about a downed pilot, this will show you the other perspective - that of the flyers trying to rescue them.George Marrett gives us an account of A1 Skyraider pilots involved in strike missions as well as rescue missions with call signs of "Sandy". Early in his tour Capt. George Marrett was involved in the rescue of a US Navy pilot Streetcar 304 (who wrote of his experience on the ground in his own work The Rescue of Streetcar 304: A Navy Pilot's Forty Hours on the Run in Laos.After a brief introduction of his training and previous experience as a test pilot, the author leads the reader through a tour of a pilot flying the prop-driven Skyraider low and slow over the jungles of Laos. The Skyraider was able to carry a plethora of weapons under it's wings and could loiter over the battlefield for hours, making it ideal to support rescue missions by suppressing local enemy opposition.As a Sandy pilot, Marrett is able to relate to the reader the courage, fear, aggressiveness and professionalism of himself and his fellow Skyraider pilots. The author is honest an reveals the true feelings of men involved in combat and how true courage is the conquering of very real - and normal - human fear. The reader is left with a vast amount of respect for the men who flew these missions and survived or "went down".The author chronicles his tour, missions and fellow pilots, some of whom survived their tour, others who were taken prisoner after having to bail out and those who never came back. This is a good work that gives the reader the perspective of the rescuer instead of the rescuer. A good read that I recommend with four stars.

I served in Nam as a Grunt and even though we worked closely with Air Support I and most of my friends thought little of the actually daily risks these men took. We watched them do some crazy attacks but of course were never in the Pilot's seat EVERY DAY as they were unless they got lucky and socked in with weather.These men were up at Zero Dark 3 AM and many times flying until dark...I cannot tell you how many times they have saved all of us on the ground . George did a great job bringing the incredibly insane things these Pilots and crew did to save themselves, their crews and of course so many of us ambushed in the jungles and waterways.It is about time we are getting the "real stories" of what these individuals and crews did flying everything from a Piper Club style plane to the fastest and heavily loaded jet they could get their hands onI Welcome Then All Home and Thank Them for being the silent majority in this bloody war...................

I personally know this amazing pilot. Oh! Wait. Let me restate this as Extraordinary Pilot. He as Sandy 05, along with the rest of CSAR, saved my life when my team's Jolly Green was shot down south of Tchepone, Laos (Please, don't tell anyone, particularly the CIA) in January 1969. He CYA'd my posterior and my JG teams day in and out risking continuously his own to 'troll for ground fire' prior to his giving us permission to descend and make the pickup of the survivor on the contested ground. George and all the Sandys, and Spads and Hobos and FAC's and Fast Movers, "THANK YOU!" I Am Alive today because of your dedication to duty beyond the call.DC SurferDoc Johnson

While I am an avid history buff, I will admit that my knowledge of the Vietnam War is a bit sketchy. Until I picked up this book, I had no idea that we even flew propeller aircraft in the war, or the potential that each pilot rescue had to become a major air and ground engagement. George Marrett did a nice job of adding to my knowledge.=== The Good Stuff ===* First and foremost, the book has some absolutely spell-binding content. It is simply amazing to me that a single person could handle as many simultaneous tasks as the combat rescue pilots were able to manage, and Marrett does a nice job of explaining the complexity and details of what these men accomplished.* Marrett is pretty honest with his readers. He discusses fear, doubt, anxiety, and his emotions, both during the actual combat rescues and later sitting in the "officers club". Probably the best chapter of the book is written after he leaves Vietnam, and begins to wonder just what the whole purpose of all the sacrifices was. Looking back, I am not sure we ever answered that question.* There was a nice mix of the technical and human sides of his experiences. i am not a pilot, have never been in the military, and have never been shot at---but I finished the book with a decent appreciation of what it took to fly (and learn to fly) a rescue mission.* While the book bogged down in a couple spots, and can get somewhat repetitive, I ended up reading the book in two or three sittings, and it held my interest throughout.=== The Not-So-Good Stuff ===*Marrett writes in the understated style, commonly found in people that routinely risk their lives in dangerous jobs. While i am not a fan of overly dramatic and semi-hysterical prose, the author takes it a bit too far. The danger, risks and absolute terror that these pilots felt can easily get lost in the stoic, understated prose. It takes a bit of an effort to stop reading for a minute and think about what you actually read.Someone actually was flying a prop-driven plane, low and slow, over state-of-the-air anti-aircraft weapons, combining the roles of combat pilot, navigator, search and rescue officer, and forward air controller while bullets were literally whizzing by. And the consequences of a mistake? Death, a horrible captivity, or at the very least a nasty couple days in the jungle.* Other than the final chapter of the book, where Marrett admits his doubts about the purpose of the whole war, the author never really gets above the level of tactics of an individual rescue. He avoids any mention of the strategy of the war, the geopolitical goals of the US, or any short and long-term consequences of Vietnam. It would have been interesting to see his take on these subjects.Marrett studiously avoids any contemplation of the cost/benefit of the efforts spent rescuing pilots, or their remains. He takes it on faith that "we don't leave Americans behind", and acts accordingly. But I did get the feeling that he may have had some doubts about risking and losing live soldiers to rescue deceased ones. Given the risks he took and friends he lost, It would have been interesting to hear his thoughts on the subject.=== Summary ===I enjoyed the book, and walked away with an appreciation for what these pilots went through. Before our son was born, we decided to purchase a small library of children's books. We researched what some must have picture books were and this one made the list. And, it has been a beautiful addition to our home library.My son, now two years old, loves reading the story of Mr. Tiger and his desire to be "wild." I like that the story really celebrates that there is a little bit of wild or Mr. Tiger in all of us.The illustrations in this book fit the story perfectly. They are colorful and captivating for the intended audience.I am happy to have this book on our shelves.

This is a delightful story with poignant humor -- not laugh-out-loud, that's too easy! Mr. Tiger yearns to be himself -- to unleash his inner tiger and stop conforming to his "proper" world. He gradually pushes the limits until finally he goes the whole way -- wild in the wilderness. But even that leaves him dissatisfied -- he's lonely and misses his friends. When he returns to city life, he finds that others have followed his example and are beginning to be themselves too. I loved this book!! Loved it. I bought copies for all my grandchildren.

My kids love this book. The illustrations are bold and fun and the story is creative and engaging yet simply written to keep the attention of younger kids. The book itself is a awesome quality hardback. I feel like it's a simple story that subtly teaches nonconformity. People can take that message as drastic as they choose, but the general principle isn't bad. (Leaves room for some parent-kid commentary, if you choose to engage that.) And not all kids are going to be queued into that anyways, just the fun story of Mr. Tiger who decides to do things differently.

The artwork in this book is stunning. It reminds me of John Klassen's art a little bit. I love Peter Brown's style and his ability to direct your eye where it needs to go. One of the things I love about illustrators that author their own books is that they have the uncanny ability to make the words and pictures work together seamlessly. They play each off the other and bring both together to make the book a beautiful piece of art.Some books are just destined to be classics. This is one of them. I had a good laugh with my kids when Mr. Tiger takes things "too far". I also like the way he doesn't totally give up his old life. He just needs a change, and so he crosses over to the wild side for a bit.This book is really cute and will appeal to kids ages 2 and up. Definitely a must-have book for any kid's home library!

Everyone should at least read this! Great gift. Gave it to a few friends, and my daughter, and everyone always loves it.I love the illustrations, the colors, the way the colors tell and enhance the story, and the overlying message of nonconformity.Its too easy to send the message to kids that being a good citizen is equal to fitting in and playing your part, even if we don't mean to. I really like that the character took time away from his community to find himself, realized he missed the life that had held him back, and found when he returned that he actually made a wonderful difference just by being true to himself. ...all in a toddler way of course.get it, you'll love it too.

Peter Brown knocks it out of the park with this one. A wonderful (and important) message to accompany a goofy story about a Tiger who wished he was 'wild.' Mr. Tiger follows the Ghandi mantra: "Be the change you wish to see in the world," which I especially enjoyed. The text is sparse and it's laid across 40 pages with evocative and colorful illustrations (most picture books are 32 pages long so you get more bang for your buck with this book). Anyway, I recommend it.

Mr. Tiger Goes Wild is a beautiful book for children, conveying a wonderful message. Peter Brown is an award winning author and for this book took home the Boston Globe Horn Award among many others. At first glance, on the cover, we see a tiger in a top hat and a tuxedo surrounded by plants and trees in the forest, which makes him seem a bit out of place. This sets the tone to start the book. Brown’s use of color throughout is very smart and he uses just the right amount of pop in Mr. Tiger to show his uniqueness. The bright orange of Mr. Tiger against the mono chromatic, brown and grey muted background of the city where he lives perfectly symbolizes Mr. Tiger’s wild side. The illustrations are so simple yet they tell so much of the story and the wordless pages are just as significant to this story as the pages with text.This book is perfect for young children because the text is minimal and keeps a good, steady pace. The word bubbles are also fun for kids to read and make it easier for younger children to follow the dialogue between Mr. Tiger and the others. The wordless pages also work well for children because it helps to fluidly convey Mr. Tiger’s transformation more visually throughout the story.Upon starting the book we see Mr. Tiger in his city with all the other people who live there. Everyone stands upright and is dressed up in suits or dresses and looks like they’re just about ready for Sunday tea. However when we first see Mr. Tiger, he already seems as though he doesn’t quite belong. Between his bright orange color and the underwhelmed expression on his face he looks a bit out of place. We see Mr. Tiger going through his day to day interactions and activities which all seem a bit hum drum, until he gets a very “wild idea”. First we see Mr. Tiger in a double page spread down on all four paws and his friends don’t seem to care much for this. Then Mr. Tiger gets loud ad wants to “ROAR”, this slightly frightens the others in the city. Mr. Tigers gets progressively more wild and active as the pages turn and his friends are not quite sure what to think of it. Until one day… Mr. Tiger “went a little too far”. We see Mr. Tiger jump into a fountain and swim across to the other side only to come out in nothing but his birthday suit!! This is sure to cause a giggle; we turn we turn to another double page spread of Mr. Tiger but this time with no suit or top hat. The look on his face is priceless with a huge goofy smile and a tiger the way nature intended! However, no one else seemed to share in his joy and it was then suggested that if he was going to act so wild that he should go live in the wild, which he though was a great idea. Then after we see him playing in the river and climbing trees in the forest he begins to get lonely and misses his friends and his home. When Mr. Tiger returns home he is pleasantly surprised to see that not only do his friends openly welcome him back, but things have begun to change and shift toward a happy medium. Things ended well for Mr. Tiger.I really enjoyed this book and could see it being a wonderful story for any child. Brown conveys a message that is important for everyone to know, which is that it is okay to be free and to be yourself. It’s good to be different even if it’s challenged sometimes. Now, I don’t know about taking all your clothes off and jumping into a fountain! However, it’s just funny and could easily be looked past. The overall message is simple, but it’s there and important for kids of all ages to understand.
