Do you skate? Do you have a child that skates? If you are interested in learning to skate or helping out a child beginner, you'll find this book an excellent introduction. Long out of print, this book was published by the United States Figure Skating Association. The illustrations are clear photographs, and each skating element is shown via numerous views of the skater so you can learn the correct position of the body, arms and legs. It covers in detail many fundamentals of skating that other books ignore.The competition rules of skating have changed a great deal since this book was published, however, the physics of skating remain the same. So if you're starting or are already in a Learn to Skate program, this is a good book to buy.Some notes: The design of boots, and how people dress on the ice have changed since this book was published. For example, there are no longer any wooden skate guards (although I wish there were!) However, the information on how to tie boots, and the comments on skating are still good.
